Any suggestions are welcome!

Your course selection and extracurriculars are strong, and if you wanted to solidify your app you’d need to get leadership/officer positions in those clubs. Also, I suggest taking SAT II’s to show your aptitude in certain subjects, since you want to major in PoliSci then I’d say to take US History. Apart from that, if your SAT score ends up in the range you think it’ll be in, then you should have a good shot, maybe a very low reach for you. Good luck and chance me back please!

Thank you vacavaliers! I am planning on taking the SAT II Subject Tests for US History and English Literature which happen to be my strongest subjects. I will definitely work at strengthening my extracurriculars during the rest of my high school career.

I would also like to add that my grades show a significant upward trend, thus I greatly benefit from using the UC GPA scale, although I suffer from being an out of state resident.

Honestly I think you have great stats, a 3.9 with the hardest courseload your school offers is outstanding. Just make sure your counsleor selects “hardest courseload possible” when applying. As far as academics are concerned, you’re set. However, your EC’s look a little thinned out if you know what I mean. If your desired major is poly sci, then devote your extra time to EC’s revolved around poly sci. It’s more about quality than quantity. Everything else looks pretty solid though! Let us know where you get in. Good luck man!

I think your GPA and your potential SAT score puts you as a strong contender for UC berkeley. You also show your major passion through your ECs. If you want suggestions, that I would also apply to UCLA

You’re definitely qualified, but the out of state thing might hurt you. Also, your weighted gpa will probably be higher because the uc’s have their own way of calculating it. If your essays are good you definitely have a really good shot.

@JoshWilson15‌ out of state actually helps… UC’s want out-of-states cuz they bring in more money

@alfawarlord Out of states have to pay more money, but public universities usually only let about 30% of their student population be from out of state. Most of the university is funded by taxpayer dollars and Californians don’t want to be paying extra for non california residents to attend. I don’t know the specifics, but it’s harder to get in from out of state :(

The OOS acceptance rate is greater than in-state; however, the OOS applicant pool is stronger in regards to objective stats, on average. Link: <a href=“Student Profile - Office of Undergraduate Admissions”>http://admissions.berkeley.edu/studentprofile</a> .
You definitely have a solid chance at Cal! Like Sophia said, try to get your ECs wrapped around your intended major.
UCB: high match
