Hey,
I took a summer class last summer at UC Berkeley, and I was wondering if anyone knows any stats or anything like that on the amount of people admitted to berkeley after doing such a program. I understand it doesnt guarrantee admission by any means, but does it help more than taking a class at a local community college/any other summer EC?

I spent my summer at Stanford, for their High School Summer College program, and they say that it doesn’t help my admission chances there any more than spending the summer at a place like Johns Hopkins would. Plenty of people from HSSC applied early to Stanford, and plenty of qualified people got rejected. (4.6 gpas, would be 3rd gen legacies, etc.)
So yes, pre-collegiate helps, but it won’t get you in on its own by any means.

It doesn’t add to your application on its own, you have to demonstrate that you have learned and grew from the experience. This can be done on the application with a good description for the activity or by incorporating a discussion into your personal statement.

I went there, and last summer was a life changing experience for me. So, I included that in my essay. My only shot at Berkeley. =)

Yeah, i know it doesnt make you a shoo in, but im really hoping it shows dedication
