UC Berkeley Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship?

So I just received an email from the scholarship department of UC Berkeley which seems deceivingly optimistically phrased. I checked on the Berkeley application status page and it says that my application is still in review.

"Congratulations!

On behalf of the faculty at UC Berkeley, I am pleased to notify you of your candidacy for the Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship. This award is the most prestigious offered to entering undergraduates by Calone of the world’s premier learning and research universities."
etc, etc.

I'm rather curious... because I recently received an acceptance to USC with accompanying scholarship opportunities similar to this, and I am unsure whether this is just another scholarship email or a sign of acceptance. My instincts tell me to doubt, but I can't help but wonder if it means anything else.

So does anyone know what this means?

Thanks!

I applied to Berkeley last year and received the same email. I ended up applying for the scholarship but I didn’t get in. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hey sorry I’m new to this site. How do you post a question?

Thank you much! Did you go up to Berkeley and interview and everything? Everywhere I look, there seems to be conflicting information. But your answer definitely does help remind me to keep everything in perspective, so thank you!

same boat as you wadawada. this is just inviting you for chance at the scholarship. weird though i got this but not ucla…

Regents means you are basically in…

everyone gets the UCB Leadership Scholarship Email, but only top 1% get the Regents

I received it today too, my counselor said its unofficial admission

Congrats!

Regents = Admission. However, don’t be looking for big scholarship bucks from Berkeley. Regents at some other campuses (Davis for example) is a significant amount of money. At Berkeley it’s more honor than cash. I don’t remember the exact amount but it wasn’t a lot.

yeah
@ plagiarism
Every applicant gets the Leadership Scholarship, I think you got confused.
Regents for cal is top 1%.
UCLA is top 1.5%

I asked my calculus teacher about it today, too. Her daughter goes to Berkeley and said that she got this scholarship invite, and when she went to go interview for it, they said oh, by the way, you’re accepted! So perhaps it really does mean that! That makes me rather excited…

And as for the scholarship money, yeah, I’d only get $1000 if I got it. But it also means we’d get priority registration, guaranteed housing, and other bonuses like that. So I’ll definitely try!

Thank you all, and good luck to you too!

hmm ucla must be looking for soething different :stuck_out_tongue: o well got berkeley regents. btw which one is better for pre-med?

Berkeley has a higher percent admitted stat for med school than UCLA, but it’s harder to keep up a higher GPA there. But also, Cal has more research opportunities. So really, it’s up to you… maybe try Berkeley for pre-med and then go for UCLA med school!

And has UCLA released their version of this scholarship already?

ya. i didnt get it :P

how do they rank the applicants to get the top 1%?

hey, i got the regents thing too. RSVP-ed for an interview and am super excited! I was just wondering if I got this Regents thing from Berkeley should I expect one from Davis too? I applied there as well and already got in thanks to ELC. These two are my top schools.

I’ve been trying to figure out how they choose applicants for this scholarship eligibility, but all I can find is that it’s based on your “academic record” and then the interview.

As for getting it from other UC schools, who knows! ELC is a beautiful thing, but I guess it depends on the relative applicant pool and what that individual school looks for in a potential scholar. I wish they were more explicit about how they went about selecting people, but then everyone would rush to cookie cut themselves into those characteristics.

got the davis regents yesterday!

Well CONGRATULATIONS! There is no better feeling than an acceptance or some sort of happy making recognition. Now, to decide where to attend…
