UC Berkeley Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship

Hey guys,
I just received an email notifying me about my candidacy for UC Berkeley's Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship, and I scheduled my interview, but I have a few questions regarding this: Does this really mean that I have been accepted to UC Berkeley? Also I have some questions regarding the interview: What is the interview at UC Berkeley like? Is it formal, or is it an informal event? What is one supposed to wear to this interview (specifically, what should a girl wear?)? Also, what types of questions are asked of the student in this interview? What kind of preparation is required?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Congratulations first - my son also got an invite. The link below gives you a flavor of what the UCB is doing - they are basically trying to recruit students like you who stand a good chance of getting into an Ivy or near Ivy. The interview is pretty informal - bring along a small resume or something that you can talk about. Remember that now the shoe is on the other foot - UCB is trying to recruit you, so just relax. In terms of what to wear for the interview, always best to be somewhat formal - but don’t over-dress.

dadmm85, thank you very much for the info; it was really helpful =)

Can anyone tell me if they send out the invites all at the same time? I haven’t received an email about it yet, which makes me wonder if I’ll receive one at all… I already have my UCLA Regents invite, so I’m hoping to get one from Cal as well.

They’ve sent out the email for the invites a few days ago, and starting today, you should be getting the invitation by mail.

Is it really necessary to bring a resume?

I’ve heard that it’s good to bring a resume and a letter of rec, though neither is required

anyone know if there are any weekend dates? i don’t want to miss school =(

also who’s planning to stay overnight?

I kinda want to but I’m worried about missing so much school…

@referee: I don’t think that there are any weekend dates… I know what you mean, I don’t want to miss school either, but it looks like we probably have to.

Hey are these scolarships also sent out to international applicants or only the in-state candidates?

A LOT of international and OOS students get the scholarship . . . a lot more percentage wise than the entire student body.

Does anyone know what type of questions they are likely to ask? and how useful are the letters of rec?

Hey, so about the overnight stay, can we go even if we aren’t 100% committed to attend?

i RSVPed last night and then later on in the night, a UCB student e-mailed me and offered to help with regents stuff like answering questions, describing Berkeley and interview, etc. SO COOL!

I got an email, too! But before RSVP-ing. Do you by chance know the answer to my question about the overnight stay? :)

Dammmmmnit. I’m responsible for e-mailing some prospective scholars too but I don’t plan on sending out the e-mails until this weekend. I’m a crappy helper haha.

@tochau, the idea behind the overnight stay is to convince you to come  Please be sure to come if you can! ROHP is a lot of fun.

yeah. i think you can still go even if you’re not 100% sure about berkeley. i think people who are invited for the interview are good candidates for berkeley and probably the ones who are more likely to go to an ivy league than UCB so i think we’re invited to come and get a taste of the “go bears” attitude and decide whether berkeley is right for us or whether HYPSMC are right for us. just guessing…
