Regarding interviews. I know that the interviewer does make notes and recommendations for the final decision. As someone stated before, about 200 people accept the scholarship. So i'm guessing around 400-500 people get offered the scholarship. Thats less than half, and since all applications are all rated as 1's, I'm guessing the interview is the only thing that differentiates people. This is not for sure, as I am not that familiar with the offer process. But relax about the interview. The professor conducted it is just as eager to bring you to berkeley as you are to impress him/her. Think about it, we are trying to get professors to make the call back if you get an offer to convince you to come. And again, I am pretty sure you don't need to bring a letter of recommendation, as I saw no one with one, but you may bring one just in case. Never hurts

OHP has no bearing on selection, lol. It should be a fun experience, I happen to be friends with the committee that is running it this year and they're all excited for everyone to arrive next week. So relax and enjoy your time at Berkeley.

Letters are indeed optional, and I doubt they hurt in the process. I absolutely forgot to even hand mine over to my interviewer last year in LA (I was a little nervous!), but I still received the scholarship. =)

There will be RCSA scholars there at the both interview locations. Take advantage of this and talk to us! It's kind of fun to re-meet people if you do decide to come to Berkeley next year.

Best of luck.

Care to clear your pm box, geminihop?

Oh, and now that I have cleared it out, I wouldn't mind answering any RC questions through PM.

To geminihop or dk7x,
Will OHP be purely social? I mean, we won't find any remnants of info sessions that night, right?
Also, I think someone already asked this, but it has yet to be answered: what types of "social activities" can we look forward to? student organization mtgs, maybe...?
Anyway, I'm def. going to do OHP, it sounds like fun! and what a great opp to experience Cal student life!

OHP is supposed to be the social aspect of this whole process. You will be given info. at and before your interview.

http://rcsa.berkeley.edu/ohp.php - a link to the event website.

This has some general info. The activities will vary based on your hosts and which day you will be attending. You can count on sampling some of the awesome local cuisine, especially Zachary's pizza and maybe some gelato or frozen yogurt.

I will be host for a few of the nights, so hopefully you have a great time, orangecake. =)

YAYS berkeley !!!
i'm getting interviewed March 5 @ LA and will be at OHP

anyone else going on march5? PM me :)

Howsabouts we start a march 5th thread? :)

do you have to tell cal that you're interested for regent's first or is it just automatic?

i should feel relieved right now for getting accepted to berkeley... but now i'm even more anxious because i really want that regent scholarship! :(

is anybody else suffering from RC scholarship anxiety?

no berkeley is my #1 choice and now that i know am in because i got the scholarship school is so not stressful i haven't relaxed like this for ages

make sure to communicate your eagerness to attend Berkeley. i think that is one of the most important aspects of the interview process.

i was having dinner with one of the professors who will be holding some of the interviews and he said that they really want to here how engaged you are into your activities and how you'll continue your endeavors at Cal. school, just relax, don't act too nervous and just enjoy the process.

talk to some of the current scholars before your interview about life in Berkeley. if you are coming to Berk for your interview you may even run into me! some of my fellows are even flying down to LA just to help out and talk to y'all.

good luck again!

is there a Cal student i can talk on AIM or MSN?

heh.

I will be at I-House on some of the interview days fior those of you interviewing in NorCal. I'll also be hosting a few people for OHP. I'f you've got any questions pertaining to these events, the Regent's Scholarship, RCSA, or Cal in general, catch me when I'm on AIM (Just click on the button to the left of this post).

Here's an OHP thread for all you Regents/Overnight specs!

shrugs click on my AIM icon thingy and IM me anytime...

i had my interview 3/4 in l.a for all you who were anxious i can confirm that they tell you that you are accepted when you check in

is the regent scholarship also available for internationals?

Please also see this thread for this “convoluted conundrum”

<a href=“Contratdiction: Scholarship Berkeley internationals - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums”>Contratdiction: Scholarship Berkeley internationals - Financial Aid and Scholarships - College Confidential Forums;

I’m pretty sure that I know a couple of international students who got regents.

In fact, a lot of people at the regents reception thingy freshman year talked funny and had Korean or European accents.

Hi,
I contacted the Berkeley fin aid office and got the following reply:

The UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office indeed does not provide financial aid
because international students are not eligible to apply for a FAFSA. The
International Office, however, does provide assistance through different
resources. The Regents’ and Chancellors’ Scholarships are not entirely
need-based aid from the federal government so international students do
have a chance at being selected for the $2,500 that they do provide for
those without proven financial need. The Alumni Scholarship is directly
through your own application to the Alumni Association and is not directly
associated with our office.

So I guess the maximum amount an international can get from Berkeley is 2500 (please correct me if I somehow misunderstood this).

The remaining 48500 are for you then. Or, this goes to you caiacs, can you somehow find out if they were getting need-based awards and not just a merit 2,5k?

thank you
cheers
