Hey all,
So I was admitted to UC Berkeley but I'm worried my current senior grades might get me rescinded. I'm not sure what my senior grades are yet, but I have somewhere around a 2.7-3.3.
This semester, I got really sick, missed close to half of a semester of school, and my grades went downhill. I missed tons of homework assignments, quizzes, and tests, and was treated unsympathetically by teachers. Throughout high school, I have maintained closed to straight A's, did well on SAT's and subject tests, and now I'm worried that all that hard work will be going down the drain.
I haven't called the UC admissions offices yet, but I'm working on getting a doctor's note to explain the grades and my absences. Pretty much all of my absences at school were cleared because of notes due to medical reasons, but I think UC Berkeley would prefer an official doctor's note. Still, the guidelines seem pretty strict. Do you think UC Berkeley will still rescind me, even with these medical reasons at hand?

All colleges and universities reserve the right to rescind an accepted applicant if they do not fulfill the conditions stipulated in your letter of acceptance. Whether UC Berkeley will rescind you or not is a decision made by the Admissions department at UC Berkeley who will usually give you an opportunity to explain any extenuating circumstances that may have resulted in you not meeting the required conditions. An extended illness that caused you to miss significant amounts of coursework could be an extenuating circumstance that they would take into serious consideration if you do not meet the stipulated conditions to maintain your admission. I think you have to be prepared to document your illness in as much detail as possible and obtain copies of your medical records to support your case if you are identified as a possible candidate for being rescinded.
