UC Berkeley Spring Admit 2016

when is the calso day for spring transfers?

hello. I was first excited when I saw a word “congratulations” but disappointed when it said admission for Spring 2016. I got into UCLA for fall 2015 but spring 2016 for berkeley… I’ve always wanted to go to UCB but I’m confused right now. Plus, I’m not international but my parents are residing out of U.S. which makes me very anxious that dorm is not guaranteed!!! Also, I’m not freshmen like some of you guys are… I’m transfer who already finished all the prerequisite classes at the community college…
Is there anybody who’s in the same situation as me?.. I don’t know whether I should SIR to UCLA or UCB

Hey guys, just heard back-- my admissions rep did confirm that Spring admits becoming Fall admits doesn’t happen and is definitely just a rumor :frowning: Also, she confirmed that even though we’re Spring admits, we can’t get an ID until Spring semester and so can’t get the student discount if we want to use the UC Berkeley gym… GRRRR. I think that upsets me more than not being able to take classes.

@helloo0 I’m on the same boat as you, got accepted into UCLA as fall 2015 and spring 2016 for UCB, also a transfer and finished all the lower courses.

@poggibaby what is your major? I’m poli sci major. I heard most of L&S got deferred admission. I still couldn’t decide which to attend. First I was like it’s just one more semester at cc so no big deal. However, spring admit was unexpected which I have not filed FAFSA for community college for upcoming fall. I’m trying to figure out a way to get financial aid so I can take classes at cc and go to berkeley in spring… If not, UCLA. I’m very worried that dorm is not guaranteed… I have no friends up in Norcal.
What a confusion…urg! It must be hard for you as well. Have you made up your mind?

@helloo0 economics for UCB and biz-econ for UCLA, me too, I didn’t file FAFSA for my cc next fall cos I thought I will be out definitely… well, I’m not planning to take classes at CC anymore cos I’ve done all the lower courses, and will do internship in the fall, pretty much the internship is settled. It is a tough decision cos I really want to graduate on time. I probably will SIR to UCB this weekend. BTW I live in Norcal, sacramento, berkeley is just closer to me than UCLA. Hope you figure it out soon! I know it’s nerve-wracking. I would be living off campus for UCB so housing won’t be a big problem, plus it’s cheaper.

@poggibaby Good thing that you got internship! I hope I can figure it out soon too! what a headache… I wish you the best!

@poggibaby Hi I am on the same boat as you. I got into both UCLA and UCB for the exactly same majors that you applies. But I couldn’t decide which one to go cuz I don’t know what to do in fall (transfer student as well). It’s great that you already decided. I’m still debating with myself cuz a lot of my friends told me to go to UCLA but my parents want me to go to UCB because it is near home. Any tips here on how you decide on attending UCB?

@KRIS0303 i know… a few friends of mine told me I should go to UCLA, but my parents want me to go to UCB. At first I was really struggle (even for now I’m still thinking about UCLA lol). I know I won’t be taking any classes at fall at CC for sure (no financial aid, transferable units cap), so the choices for fall are 1, internship, 2, get a part-time job or whatever to earn some money, 3, stay home and learn something new on my own.

The reasons why I am leaning to UCB are: 1, cheaper than UCLA (according to the shopping lists that two schools provide to me). 2. closer to my parents and my grandparents. 3, the name of UCB (can’t give up, planning to work oversea in the future, and bigger name matters) 4. fine for me to work at bay area after graduate. (not sure for Socal)

Things that kind of “preventing” me from berkeley: 1, for sure the waiting time for a whole semester, being afraid of falling behind☞answer: take summer classes to make up the units, for spring admits we actually have 2 summers, summer 2016, and summer 2017 to take classes. I think it’s very possible that we can graduate on time as fall admits (not for double majors tho). Even tho we can’t, we have to graduate at Dec, 2017, my friend who graduated from UCB with the same econ major now in big 4 told me, the largest recruiting season for econ & biz majors is at FALL, which means we will have 2 recruiting seasons if we graduate at Dec 2017. Not a problem at all for the recruiting part. 2, and, what else? I can’t think of anything else…

So I think there are more benefits for me to go to UCB than UCLA. The only reason that actually “prevents” me from going to berkeley is that I keep thinking if I graduate at Dec 2017, I‘m 24… and I’m a gal lol. My friends called me I was being an idiot, what I was thinking was totally bullshit cos it’s not like i’m going to get married and have a child right after I graduate. I think, hell yeah they’re right. For job market, I am kind of worried too cos I’m interested at ibanking, and not sure if ibanking prefers younger college graduates (those who graduate at 21 or 22 or 23 lol), but if I go to UCLA, I will still be close to 24 when i graduate, so whatever

All the above basically is my whole thinking process, it’s personal and biased, and i don’t know if that helps you or any future applicants in similar situation. But writing this does help me confirm my decision ☞ Go bears! Good Luck for you!

omg i @ the wrong person at first, sorry about that ><

@Poggibay Thank you so much for your helpful advice! The problems that we have been thinking are exactly the same! I think I would probably go to UCB! But my biggest problem right now is that I want to withdraw from my ENGL 1 C Honor class and take Global Economic instead, which means that I have to report this change to Berkeley because I updated ENGL 1C to my spring schedule. I emailed them on Monday, but still haven’t heard back from them yet. So I am a little bit worried right now! Have you ever gotten a W before or do you know anyone who have been through this situation? Sorry I am just too worried about my offer being rescinded.

Anyone else SIR yet?

I SIRed for spring 2016. However, currently having problem with SLR process. They want me to submit additional document, but I keep getting error at their website.

@KRIS0303 why would you wanna withdraw? is it because you are getting a low grade? if not I don’t see it’s necessary to withdraw it cos the trouble of reporting…

I just SIRed for spring 2016 too.

bump. Has anyone asked for an explanation on why they were deferred for Spring?

I’m (of course) eternally grateful to have been accepted, but I definitely feel slighted to have been chosen for spring. It’s extremely frustrating to have to wait 7, almost 8 months before actually being a student there and it puts us at a huge disadvantage both academically and socially. I grin everyday over my acceptance but then later on I’ll shake my head and think to myself “8 f(rea)king months!?!?” :-w

@JustinUC it’s 4 months for the fall semester, count this way will make you feel better lol (at least for me)

Does anyone know anything about on-campus housing for “January Start” students?

Hello Spring 2016 Transfer admits,

I am a Sociology major who was admitted for the Spring 2016 term. I plan on moving to Berkeley in the Fall so I can familiarize myself with the city and UC Berkeley. A friend of mine who studies in Berkeley revealed to me that many Spring transfers move early to participate in the Cal community, so I hope I can utilize the fall semester to participate in Cal events and clubs. Meanwhile, I’ll be studying for the LSAT and taking real estate courses at Berkeley City College, the community college nearby.

That being said, is anyone considering in moving to Berkeley early because I am looking for a roommate in hopes to cooperate in our disparate journey as Spring transfers (as well as cutting the cost of rent). I am currently window shopping on Cal rentals, and I see some lovely places we can share

Also, I hope all of us Spring transfers, can get in contact when time draws closer because our dates are all screwed up :\

I thought berkeley created that fall transition thing for spring transfers?

I’m not sure what that fall transition thing is. mind clarifying?
