UC Berkeley students, application tips?

I really want to go to berkeley, it is my dream school. I am trying to get in for CS or EECS. My SAT is a little low (1890) but i am taking the ACT. But was there something on your application that you feel you did really well or just any overall tips for someone applying?

Make sure you have a strong UC GPA. EECS is a VERY competitive applicant pool.

i have a 4.27 UC gpa… not sure if that is good enough. But i am talking about stuff that i cannot fix anymore
like little things that you may have done on it that gave you an edge

The adcoms read hundreds of essays daily. Which topics do you think they come across hundreds of times daily? Grandparents, immigration, “I was the president of club xyz,” musical instrument, etc. How many of those do you think are actually unique? Describing where you’re from…How many people describe their home town? Woohoo, another suburb. Big whoop. How many people describe their family and try to spin it off as “we’re so different!”?

Bottom line: don’t be typical

mccormickt12, UCB is going to primarily look at your SAT or ACT scores and your UC GPA against other applicants in the applicant pool. After that, then EC’s, CS, awards, and essays will come into play. The “little things” will, unfortunately, not be as much of an “edge factor” at this (or any other very competitive school for that matter) compared to test scores and GPA. Good luck to you!

thanks inconnu, that is a very good point, i think my essays are unique, but then again everyone probably does
