@Dancer581 Thanks I got the borderline supplement then. And yeah that’s a pretty old statistic so I’m guessing it has changed. Good luck to you too! Maybe we’ll have class together next year (probably not), but you never know!

@givemecollege
You too! Hope we both get accepted! Haha you never know :)

Good luck on the questionnaires you two :)!

There were some really old stats (between 2003 and 2005) that had “augmented review” admit rates at around 25%.

Received a supplement and request for 2 Rec Letters from UCBerkeley. What are my chances?

merigadi: if berkeley is a high reach for you, then request for supplement is good news. they haven’t ruled you out.

Can anyone please help me or at least give me some input? I’ve been worried sick for the past few weeks that people have been receiving supplement requests.

I am a US citizen who’s currently studying at an international school under the IB Diploma program. My grades are in the top 10th percentile of my school and I have an SAT score or 2130. I have also taken two summer courses at Cal worth 8 units and have received an A and a B in the courses. Within my application, I mentioned that I have spent an extensive amount of time on competitive pistol training (up to 30 hours a week, though I couldn’t join events due to my nationality) and had even wrote one of my essays about my journey of overcoming the gender biases which exist in the sport. I definitely expected a talent supplement, and yet I didn’t receive one. Is this a good sign that I’ll be able to get in, or am I rightfully worried? If you’re below average, does not getting a supplement mean that you’re definitely not in, and vice versa if you’re above? I believe that my essays are above average.

@Fluffin your SAT is in Berkeley’s range. Do you know your UC GPA? You might have already been placed in the accept pile. I know its tough, but try not to stress. The decision will be what it will be whether or not you worry about it. Good luck!

I’m not sure about my UC GPA, and as an OOS, that makes me worried as our entire school has massive grade deflation/GPA inflation, which makes everyone look terrible when compared to students outside of our school. But I guess you’re right, I’m either accepted or rejected and there’s really nothing I could do to change that :(

HI

This is my first post on CC, and my first question is does anyone know up until around what day UC Berkeley and UCLA STOP e-mailing out for supplementary information? I’m in Canada and haven’t received any yet and I’m FREAKING out! It’s already February 15 so I doubt I’ll get any supplements now.

My second and MAIN question is that can an applicant who is unsure of their standing (possibly a borderline) get into UC Berkeley and/or UCLA without a supplement? I read on here before that someone had many friends who were borderline and got into their UC schools without a supplement, because ultimately their applications provided sufficient information for the UC schools to make a decision upon. It is my understanding that the supplements are e-mailed when there is not enough information in the original applications for a decision to be based upon. SO DO I HAVE ANY HOPE?

*Also is anyone else on here from Canada applying?

THANK-YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP IN ADVANCE :)

@Fluffin, you need to be competing at national levels to receive the talent supplement.

@Flower123, I haven’t heard from anyone about the supplement for a while, so I assume the campuses have stopped sending them out. You have to remember that what you perceive as “borderline” may or may not be borderline for Berkeley. Let the campus make that decision and just hang on.

@AskMsSun I am a high school senior and got the supplemental questionnaires from UCI and UC Berkeley. I had a very strong academic record in the past, but with family drawbacks and obligations my grades tanked, which is why I got the supplemental letters. I just got a rejection notice from Davis today. I was wondering, based on your expertise, if you think my chances are good?

SAT: 1980
UC gpa: 3.9
Two varsity sports, captain on both, with state championship titles in both.
No father present and a disabled mother that I needed to take care of.

I got the borderline supplement…
what are my chances? because i’ve researched and it says people with supplements are bumped up to 50/50 chances of getting admit/rejected…

4.2 uc gpa. 1550 SAT 26 ACT
Great ECs
Essays were pretty good
Strong leadership
Submitted Letter of rec. ap english teacher elaborated on my leadership

I got the disability one a while ago (for a very serious focusing problem). I just wanted to bump this thread up considering that the decisions will come out on thursday and i think it’d be helpful to future generations to see the results of students with supplements.

I’m also stressing because this has been my dream school since i was little.

My stats by the way are:

2140 SAT
3.56 UW
Really good EC’s (founder and president of debate club, mock trial attorney, countless community service hours and much more)
Pretty strong essays
Letter of rec from my APUSH teacher

Any chances would be greatly appreciated!

I think after decisions come out, a separate thread should be made for those applicants who received the supplement questionnaire…It will help us understand acceptance rates of supplement applicants and help future applicants.

I also got the disability supplement a while ago (in the middle of January, I believe.) In my original UC app, I talked about some processing speed difficulties I had been diagnosed with ages ago (all related to autism) and how they affected my test-taking abilities. Supposedly people with supplements have a 25% admit rate according to a 2005 statistic, but who knows what it is today. However, I believe that even attempting to fill out the supplement and getting a letter of recommendation in is already increasing your chances - it shows that you care, some people don’t even touch the supplement believe it or not. On top of that, if you answer the questions articulately and concisely, your chances are boosted even further.

My stats:

3.83 UW / 4.04 UCW GPA (Took the hardest schedule possible, school doesn’t offer many AP classes.)
1710 SAT (I hate standardized testing .__. )
Really good essays
Really strong ECs

Got a letter of rec from my math teacher/counselor.

Great idea.

Accepted with supplement!!
UC GPA: 3.45/3.95 (ughh)
SAT: 2110

I know the supplement is what got me in Spend a lot of time on it and answer the questions thoroughly and thoughtfully!!

my best friend and I both got the talent supplement, both denied.
it really sucks, cause I gave my all and worked really hard on it–i’m actually confused as to why I didn’t get in =/

I got in with the disability supplement! I had spinal surgery at the end of freshman year which left me paralyzed with no chance of being able to walk again. but after some time in the hospital and a couple months I finally started to be able to walk…guess that was good enough to help me get in!
