Is it true that 90% of TAP participants get admitted to Berkeley?

I recently joined TAP and am wondering...I hope it's true :)

Also, have any of you participated in the Starting Point Mentorship Program? I am a new member of that also. If so, what can you tell me about your experience with it?

Dam Its Johnny: I DID get invited to Berkeley's TAP, which is how I became a member.

You can’t join Berkeley TAP its an invite only program. You can join TAP for UCLA by completing your CCC Honors or Scholars program which I’m guessing you joined.

Anyways Rattus89 thanks for clarifying after I post… As most of them time on this board people think they can join Berkeley TAP. But anyways from what Ive read YES majority of people in Berkeley TAP do get accepted. Also I dunno how many members of this board have join Berkeley’s TAP as I think the requirements were something like under represented minority and low income not 100% sure. So your very lucky to be in the program.

Ah yeah. Well at any rate, I’m in the Berkeley TAP program, and Johnny pretty much has it down…

It is invite only, and it is targeted towards students who are first-generation, minority, or low income. Word on tha streetz is the admit rate is 90% (haha), so yeah apparently we have a great shot. What I’ve heard about the Berkeley TAP is that you get to go to Berkeley in the summer and stay on campus. That’s just what I heard though - I can’t say since I joined the program in August of 2008. A remarkable benefit to the program, though, is that they will write you a letter of appeal is you are rejected. The best benefit though, is that you have your Berkeley TAP adviser there to help you always. My adviser (Pasadena City College area) is a wonderful resource.

I get a letter from UCB recently saying that my school is going to start the TAP program with them. It basically said anyone interested should inquire about it… so if it is an invite-only program it seems like you can still get a hold of them to see if you’re “qualified”.

i dont know, grey… keith schoon, the director of Cal TAP says that 90% of all TAP students get into Cal, so i wouldnt really call it “word on tha streetz,” haha…

BTW, im in both UCLA and CAL TAP programs. Cal TAP is kept really quiet and you really need to dig around your CC to find them (if they even have one at all…)

basically if your Cal TAP adivser thinks you qualify you send a copy of your folk’s tax sheet to see if you qualify. if that passes, congrats. you’re in Cal TAP

if you check out ucbsp.com it had a lot of answers, if you have any personal ones send me a private message. I transferred to UCB from a community college.

Evan – I’m not sure where she wants to go. I just want to drag her to wherever I’m at! I love having Lisa’s presence around. :]]]

FYI, she promised me to recruit you, to enroll in one of Bill Stewart’s philosophy classes. You’ll fall in love with him like everyoneeee at City.
