Hi everyone!!
I know it’s a bit early, but I think it’s better for us to start this now.
You could post your status here and ask any questions you like.
Good luck everyone
Here’s my status:
I am a CCC student from Foothill College, would apply for transfer in 2017 and transfer in 2018
Overall GPA: 3.94
but I might screw up some of my finals this quarter because I am too busy, might drop down as low as 3.85, scared to hell that it might hurt me bad for my application :((

@hopangman I’ve been waiting for someone to start this thread, have you started your Personal Insights?
Hey all! I’m also applying this fall. Quick question: how will the UCs calculate our GPA?
The app doesn’t allow increments, but this link implies otherwise: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/preparing-admission/transfer-gpa/index.html
This link will help you calculate your current GPA using the scale in the link you provided @kookachim :
http://gpacalculator.net/college-gpa-calculator/
As far as I know, UC doesn’t do increments. I think at the UC level they do increments, but for transfers its just A, B, C, D
Don’t forget to apply for UC tap. That is your first step. You need that. Once you input all your classes and grades, it calculates the GPA it self.
Also use Assist.com for major transferable classes
@syrianxo Are you certain that UC admissions don’t count +/- towards GPA calculation for transfer applicants? When I entered in my coursework on the UC tap site, they used the +/- scale when calculating my GPA.
Any poli sci majors in here?
Hello there!! Here is mine

Went to standing rock to protect the water from DAPL for a period of time during fall 2016 semester, pretty intense experience
Activism: LGBTQ, Planned Parenthood, ACLU, Greenpeace, Sierra club, etc.
In 2016 I worked on a lawsuit against ROV of San Diego for election fraud (won case)
Hosted many school events on campus to teach students how to be politically active/ register to vote
Worked on a handful of political campaigns, about to jump on one for the midterms !!
Background:
First to go to college in my family
Hispanic
bisexual
I had a rough childhood, mother passed away and never knew my father.
I dropped out of college in 2015 (got academic renewal and I have been getting straight A’s since). I hit rock bottom and will be discussing my struggle and how I got out of it/ found my passion for poli sci and activism in my statements.
I plan on going to Law School after graduating
@ucbtransfer98 My knowledge is limited on this because my campus does not increment, so all grades are A,B,C etc. However, I know from a few of my friends at the UCs that told me about the +/- scale, and how it is practiced at the UC level. I hate to give false information, so in conclusion I am not really sure. To be safe, I would assume they do.
@seaairuhh Hey, looks like you really got a competitive application. Berkeley definitely values the Personal Insights, so it would be a good idea to discuss your background so that they get a good idea of what kind of person you are and what you can bring to their campus.
@andlecic There is another 2018 Transfer thread that is already started, if you want you can post your stats there and hopefully more people will chance you there!
I attended the Berkeley Summer Experience for Transfers about a month ago and according to the admissions counselors, they calculate gpa according to the flat A B C D F scale if you’re coming from a community college. The best option would probably be to use UC TAP to calculate your gpa. I’m a mechanical engineering major, whats your guys’ majors?
@syrianxo Yeah! I started them at the BSE I attended this summer! Have you had a chance to start yours?
@hopangman That’s really useful information. Yeah, I have too. I’m actually almost finished, just a few more revisions, and I think I’ll be solid. and I’m MCB major hopefully.
4 more days until they open the UC app guys!!
I could not find any extracurriculars related to my major which is chemistry. If I don’t have any, then should I consider not applying to UC Berekely?
Of course! You should apply anyways, maybe you can make up your application with something else. Apply! You have nothing to lose
@Annmarey any EC’s is better than no EC’s, so list anything u have. if u can, try working for ur school as a chem tutor this fall semester or finding some students to tutor privately. This is a good relevant EC
Here are the stats:
State of residence: California
School: University of Washington in Seattle
Major: Computer Science (already accepted into major)
GPA: 3.96
Extracurriculars:
2016-present: Research Assistant for one of the graduate departments; assist in coding and programming endeavors (started during school year and am continuing position remotely over the summer)
2015-2016: Quality Assurance Intern at bay area start up
2014: Summer Intern assisting CS and Chemistry department at USC
The main concern is that the UCs favor CCC transfers but I’m hoping that this will not be too detrimental in the admissions process
