UC Berkeley Transfer Thread 2018

I received the email and I did not submit FAFSA or any requests for financial aid because my family’s income is well above the need based requirements.

Update: I just received the scholarship email.

Wild theory: would the emailing list be in alphabetical order?

@ebonylmocanu that or the order in which people applied, I would think. If there is any order!

@ebonylmocanu I don’t think it’s in alphabetical order because my last name is G and my friends last name is S and we both got it around the same time

Kinda freaking out right now because I didn’t receive an email. I have a 4.0 GPA, work about 30 hrs a week and have advanced up in my company to more leardership role. I did submit a FAFSA with special circumstances so mabye since it hasn’t been approved yet that’s why I didn’t get the email but still freaking out over the whole thing.

I did however receive the regents email from UC Davis

@tman831

A direct quote from the email everyone received - “This scholarship application is separate from the undergraduate admission process and receiving this message is not a guarantee of admission to Berkeley.”

Try not to worry about it too much.

I didn’t receive the email. :frowning:

GPA: 4.0
Major: History
100+ semester units completed by end of Fall 2017
All major prep finished by Fall 2017
IGETC fully certified by Fall 2017
Applied for FAFSA - come from middle income household

@need2go2UCLA u have 100+ units!!!.. i remember that if you have too many units, that will affect your application…

@need2go2UCLA @bobaboi

I believe the unit cap is only if transferring from another 4 year university or if the units are upper division.

e.g. if admitted having 100+ semester lower division units, only 75 or 80 will transfer (check specific college and major for exact) and the additional will be subject matter.

Hey future Bears!
If someone could please chance me, I would really appreciate it!

School: DVC
Major: Political Economy
Overall GPA: 3.63 (I received my only C on my transcript as a Junior in high school taking a summer psych 101 class at DVC. I did not expect to go to a JC, and did not expect to have this C follow me once I started school at my community college. I explained this in my app, and the constant growth in GPA that I have had throughout my college semesters that have followed)
IGETC: Completed by Spring
Prereq: Completed by Spring
Tap: Yes
Essays: Worked with my TAP advisor and periodically checked in for advice. Overall really confident in my essays.
Extra Circulars: Alpha Gamma Sigma (3 semesters), Highly involved in the growth of a once small non-profit into its now internationally reach, Active in local Mosque Youth Group, Community outreach intern, UCB TAP
Awards: Level 10 California Merit pianist
Work Experience: Intern at a Healthcare consulting firm, while also working two other jobs (restaurant server, and front desk receptionist at a local gym) simultaneously with nearly 20+ worth of units each semester.
About me: Afghan, first generation, financially struggling family, both parents highest education level is High School.

Thanks! and Go Bears!

@bobaboi @hopesolo Thanks for replying! Yeah, all of my units were taken at a CCC, all lower division, so the unit cap limitation will not negatively affect my application. Thanks!

@littlebear24 your gpa is in the admitted range for the major so I would think you have a good chance. I am also applying as political econ and go to DVC. Good luck!

Is anyone going to Cal Day? And has anyone gone before? Would love to go… but…wish Cal Day was after decisions,

I do not live in the area, so do not want to pay for travel to find out a few days later I did not get in and put myself through the heart break.

@philosophyCAL I went a as a kid when my older sister had been admitted as a freshman. It’s pretty fun and a really awesome environment to be in - you see Cal at it’s best.

As transfers though, you’re right - may not make sense to really attend if we’re not sure yet

@gonewiththeair I’m gonna go with your theory LOL. Hopefully its a sign!!

Ah so I wasn’t the only that got the email. Out of all of my friends that applied to Berkeley, I was the only one that got the scholarship email so I was weirded out lol

i was considering going to cal day as i live with all cal students, but I think I will be too sad if i get rejected right after, so to be safe i will skip it
