UC Berkeley Transfer

Hi guys,
I am filling the application for Fall 2011 to UCB. I want to study Computer Science BA. I am studying at Orange Coast and Golden West College now and my GPA is 4.0. I studied high school in foreign country. I will finish IGETC, and all required math and physics courses. However, I cannot finish all the required computer science courses before I transfer and there are some courses that are not articulated. Do I have to finish all of the required CS courses to transfer? My counselor said that I don't have to finish every course they require but I saw on the UCB's website that I should complete before I transfer.
Is there any one who had admitted to UCB able to help me?
I really need an answer now.
Thank you.

Well either way you’re going to apply no matter what answer we give you but to make u feel happier, UC Berkeley understands that CS61A,B,C is rare to find in community colleges. However, if they are offered at your community college, you must complete it. All classes comparable to the major you are enrolling in must be completed prior to transfer.

Ok. So I won’t apply for it because I haven’t taken enough classes in computer science comparable to those in UCB. I will have another year and won’t stress me out next semester. Thank you for your advice :D

Right. UC Berkeley won’t really consider you unless you have ALL of them completed.

IT IS NOT TRUE!!
Believe me or do more researches. Just finish igetc, math series, 60 semester units prior Spring 2011, COMPSCI 61B ,and your GPA is 4.0 then you are in !
Do apply, or waste useless one more year!

The problem is that the CS course articulated with COMPSCI 61B in GWC has not been offered for 2 years and will not be offered next spring. I am taking C++ Programming and I will take Data Structure with C++ next spring but it is not articulated :frowning: It is the only class that I need. Everything else is done. I don’t know what I should do right now :((

Just apply and see what happens. If you don’t get in, apply again next year when you have the last class. You have a good chance of getting in.

Ok, I will try this time. Hope I could get accepted :(

If it is not articulated, then you are fine. However, if it IS articulated, then you’re not. I spoke with an admissions officer and she told me exactly that. She told me the reason for that was because when enrolled in UC Berkeley, you must graduate in 2 years. They want you to graduate in a timely manner so that it opens up more available space in the major. You not being able to graduate on time means another person is not able to be admitted.(I found that somewhere on the UC Berkeley site). If you are behind in courses, you will not be able to do so. I just don’t want you to waste money applying if you are not qualified that’s why. Just check ASSIST and make sure that all of the articulated courses are complete. If that’s the case then go for it! College students like me are poor and can’t afford to waste money to apply if I’m not qualified haha. I have to pay for my college. Hope this helps.

Of course any one of us here does not have the right to say what’s right and what’s wrong. It all comes down to what the admission officer says. To talk to one, just call 510-642-3175. The admissions officer will tell you if you should apply or not. Good luck!

I read the same on UCB website. I also emailed Doctor Brian Harvey in UCB and he said that I could not replace COMPSCI 61B like that. Therefore, I should try comparable courses in OCC.
Anyway, I can’t finish 30 units next semester. I can’t afford the application fee either so I think I should take another year. Anyway, I can save money by taking classes at cc  Thank you for all of your advices.
