UC Berkeley Undeclared Major?

I was recently accepted to UC Berkeley in the College of Letters & Sciences as a R&C finalist. Is my current major undeclared? I applied as an English major although I think I might want to change and explore my interests once enrolled. If I am undeclared am I only undeclared within the Arts & Humanities division or undeclared for the entire L&S college as a whole?

Admits into the College of Letters and Sciences are Undeclared regardless of Major listed on the UC application. You will then declare your major once you meet the course requirements.

Thank you very much! Definitely gives me a lot of options!

Yes, you start as undeclared in L&S.

Some majors are high demand / impacted / capped majors. See Declare or Change a Major | L&S Advising for a list. These may require a college GPA or grades higher than 2.0 or C in their prerequisites. English is currently not a high demand / impacted / capped major.

If you want to explore, you should check the prerequisites for each of the majors you may be interested in and take them early, so that you can get an idea of the major and not be behind on completing them in time to declare the major. Departmental web sites will list prerequisites (and whether AP or other high school exam credit is accepted).

Thank you so much!
