I was wondering which school would be better for neuroscience. I like the environment in both colleges, and the financial aid evens out the cost of both school. Also, on the UCLA financial aid theres no Calgrant, but there is a huge Scholarship Recognition Award grant. I was wondering if this includes the Calgrant because the amount they are offering seems too good to be true. Thankyou

Do you plan to go to Med school after getting a neuroscience degree or do you plan to get a phd in neuroscience?

If you plan to go to med school after getting a neuroscience degree, I would suggest UCLA or UCSD, UC Davis (If you applied to those two latter schools). As these schools have medical centers in which you can do undergrad research, internships, and volunteering which is important for med school applications.

If you plan to get a phd in neuroscience, either Berkeley, UCSD or UC Davis are great choices. Go tour those campuses so that you get a feel of what its like.

It was my understanding that UCLA has neuroscience and UCB has cognitive science. If you look at the requirements for each major they are markedly different. My pre-med son is also trying to decide between these two majors at Cal and UCLA. Good luck! Are you going to both Admit Days?

^ UCLA has an interdisciplinary neuroscience major; it also has a psychobiology track in its psychology major. UCB has a neurobiology track in its molecular & cellular biology major.

is doing pre-med in a campus that has a med school better?

^not necessarily, but its always nice to have a nearby hospital as a resource…

I cannot comment on berkeley’s program, but neuroscience at UCLA is known to be very good here among the science departments…check out the teacher “Arnold Scheibel” in google for example. He’s the first upper division neuroscience professor that neuroscience majors take and many students swear he is the best part of their UCLA experience. of course, the classes are difficult, but science at either UCB and UCLA is going to be challenging.

source-have many neuroscience major friends
