Hi everyone,
I got into both UCB and Georgia Tech, but I'm having huge troubles trying to choose between them. I'm from Georgia so it'll be in-state tuition at GT, while at UCB it'll be OOS tuition which is like 50k. However, I've heard that Berkeley is probably a better place for me since I'm doing a liberal arts major and Tech is a primarily engineering school. What should I do? Any opinions and helpful advice is much appreciated!!

Unless you can afford Berkeley without much debt, I would go to Georgia Tech and switch to business, computer science or engineering.

Just curious why you didn’t apply to UGA (or did you)? Can you go there?
A lot of your decision will rest upon how much your parents can/will pay. If you can graduate Berkeley with little to no debt and not bankrupt your family, it remains a viable option.
Or, go to Tech and major in International Affairs. The major has a tech slant at Tech but it probably has what you want. Can you find some undergrads in the program to talk to?
"I’ve heard. . . " is never a good way to start an argument, especially one that ends with you and your parents spending $200,000+ to send you to Berkeley.

I did apply to UGA and got into the Honors Program but I’m hesitant to go there because I personally want to be more in the city.
Yeah, I know it’s not but that is honestly how it is, it’s only what I’ve heard from friends and what I’ve read on CC.
My family can afford Berkeley but the fact that one year at Berkeley can pay for almost 5years at GTech is still making me hesitant, and I do want to go to grad school so I’m considering expenses there too.

I would save the money and go to GT or UGA honors.

If you like to be in Berkeley as it will give you a different experience, then by all means, go there. Berkeley has about 5 thousand OOS and IS students who are paying the full fees. If you’ll go there, you’re not the first time to have even done it, and so, you’re not alone.

If your parents will pay with cash (not loans) for Berkeley, then you should go there. I love Georgia Tech, for engineering and even business, but not for what you want to study. According to the following website Berkeley is ranked #10 in the world for International Relations, while GT and UGA are between #150 and #200: <a href=“QS World University Rankings for Politics 2013 | Top Universities”>http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/university-subject-rankings/2013/politics

However, neither you nor your parents should go into debt for Berkeley. If you need to pass on Berkeley, go to GT and then apply to a great graduate program.
