UC Berkeley vs. Regents scholarship UCLA

Suppose I’m from California. I’ve read that the regents scholarship for UCLA does not pay much. However, there are other benefits. Which would you pick?

Amount is $2,000 or “If a Regents Scholar has additional financial need beyond the $2,000 honorarium, the scholar will be awarded university scholarship and/or grants to cover the remainder of the scholar’s need”, presumably meaning replacement of student loan, work study, and (if any) unmet need with scholarship/grant.

(Berkeley grad school alum and CA resident going through the college search process with my 2nd kid and 1st didn’t look at UCLA so there are probably many folks here with a better way to pick but I’ll answer anyway) - if you have a decent idea of what you want to major in, look at the ranks of that department. If not, I’d personally go with UCLA because of the priority ranking for picking classes, plus I just noticed that you get guaranteed housing AND parking. Unless you live in SoCal and are dying to live in the Bay Area. Either way you have great options.

I think the 3.0 GPA requirement would put a damper on the regents scholarship for UCLA.

^^^ sounds like you know what your decision should be then
