UC Berkeley vs Rice

UC Berekeley - Economics

Rice - Engineering

When I was filling out the application for Rice, I ticked electrical engineering.
But do they assign any other random engineering department?
Think I should call them and find out..

Anyways, which one do you think is a better choice? (I am planning to go for MBA)

I find it hard to decide between the two...

Well, I wouldn't look at it as a choice between UC Berkleey Econ and Rice Engineering. Berkley I've heard is pretty hard to transfer between schools, but at Rice (excluding music and architecture) it is not hard at all. I don't really know enough about Berkeley to compare the two (my vote for pretty much everyone's _____ or Rice? question goes to Rice, but I'm biased) but I will point at out that at Rice you don't really have to decide between econ and engineering. While the sheer number of hours required for an elec. degree might make a second major undesirable, you could experiment for quite a while before deciding, assuming you do a good job of planning your engineering progression.

You don't get accepted into Rice Engineering; you get accepted into Rice. My daughter changed majors many times - it is a much more flexible place to be than at Berkeley.

similar question. How do the undergraduate chemistry programs of each compare?
I'm still leaning toward Berkeley, but that's because of my major. What fits you more?

It's hard to imagine two schools more different. I think you just have to go whichever feel you liked more.

Cal's chem is far superior. however, I actually got into Cal at the college of chemistry (best in country). I'd warn you against this is you are pre-med - I am and I'm taking Rice over Cal. You get better recs, its a smaller school, its less competitive. Honestly, though, if you're just in it for the love of chem and you're planning to get a chem based job, go Cal IF you got in to the College of Chem. Otherwise its almost impossible to transfer in. They accept 300 and graduate 50 (I learned a lot on Cal day, lol).

Rice has a med school rate of around 90% or so. i know this and i'm not even doing the "pre-med" track. But one of the main reasons I'm going to Rice is because it is easy to switch majors.

Largest medical center in the world right across the street from Rice... 'nuff said. If I wanted to be a doctor, Rice would be the school for me. I'm doing engineering, though, but... oh wait, Rice is still the school for me.
