I was recently admitted into both UCB and UCSB. Honestly, I didn't expect an acceptance from Berkeley, and I already had my mind set on going to UCSB. I love Santa Barbara's campus, weather, and social life, and felt very welcome there.

As much as I'd love to go to UCSB, I don't know if I wanna turn Berkeley down. It has such a high reputation, and if I graduate from there, it would greatly help in finding a job. I'd love that, but I don't know if Berkeley is the right atmosphere for me.

Any advice? Pros/ Cons would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

haha, that sucks. but here’s a few things to consider as you decide between UCSB and berkeley.

your major: depending on which major you are planning to take, look carefully into the colleges’ respective programs. Get a feel of how you like the college’s program.

the environment: not too big of a factor but berkeley’s academic setting is usually tougher than that of SB. SB has a friendlier learning environment

Berkeley has a higher general reputation, but do know if you plan on going to grad school, the specific program matters a lot.

Exactly what Laxxer said, it doesn’t matter how great “prestigious” of a school you attend if you’re not learning what you want to learn. UCB is by far amazing and being that it’s number one public school in the world and competes with Harvard’s education… you’ll be able to get a job regardless. Just take into account the competition you have to face and the studying you have to get grades. If you’re planning on going to grad school then SB or Berkeley is fine as long as you maintain a high gpa. Good luck and congrats on your acceptance!
