UC Berkeley vs. UCLA vs. UCSD for Bio

I was wondering which school I should go to for undergraduate. I know all 3 schools have decent bio programs but which is better for pre-med if I want to apply to med schools in 4 years.

UC Berkeley - molecular cell biology
UCLA - microbiology, immunology and molecular genetics
UCSD - bioengineering

i know berkeley is super competitive but should i take that into account when making my decision because of deflated gpa? is it REALLy that competitive for the mcb major

Any help would be appreciated. thanks!!

Berkeley is rough for a pre-med major. Personally I'm bioE here, but a lot of my friends are really struggling with some of the "weeder" pre-med classes (ie o-chem, physics, 2nd semester calc). I'd say UCSD is probably the best choice for pre-med, but if you wanna work your butt off, Cal is an amazing school and can get you almost anywhere (not sure about UCLA's program).

Go to whichever school you will be happiest at. For one, all three are competitive, and getting good grades will require you to work hard. Many, if not most, "pre-meds" drop out for something else. I know, you're different. So were all the others.

Go where you'll be happiest. If you do change your goals, why should you be stuck at a school that was just a one-trick pony as far as you're concerned? If Cal offers the best experience, go there. If UCLA offers it, go there. If UCSD does, go there. All three will be roughly comparable in terms of opportunities available to undergrads, but they are also very different schools in terms of "feel."

All 3 UCs are competitive, you can't go wrong with anyone of them. But they are not cake walk for anyone of them. Just keep in mind that most people change their majors or intended majors in colleges. So the bottom line is to pick a school that offers some flexiblity.

Well man fist of all specify what type of bio you want, and then I can tell you what is better, but UCLA is good for Bio or berkely I recomendo you those, then also decide on the campus on facilities, etc.

For pre-med, doesn't matter. You don't even have to earn a BS in Bio to become a doctor. Go to Georgetown and study political science -- it won't make any difference in your chance to get into med school.

I am personally making that exact same decision right now, same major and same schools.

Personally, I've always wanted to go to UCLA. My cousin went there, I was born in LA, and it's really hip. However I recently went to Berkeley and fell in love with the campus and the enviornment. It's so different from southern CA (where i've grown up my entire life!).

Ideally I want to go to Berkeley, but I got a scholarship to go to UCLA and I don't know if it's worth paying the extra money to go to Berkeley. Also, I'm not exactly 100% sure that I want to major in Bio, I'm thinking about majoring in Business and Berkeley has an amazing business program.

As for UCSD, literally, all of my friends are going there and they have an amazing Bio program too.

I just feel for me that Berkeley has more of the major choices that I am interested in. Also Berkeley is the number one public school in the nation.

I know this probably sounds cliche but visit the campuses and make your decision based on that.
