Hello everyone, I am a transfer student for Fall 2009 and admitted to both of these schools.

I am interested in International Relations and plan to find a job in Southern California or Hong kong in the future.
So..what these 2 schools offer me are:
UC Berkeley - Accepted to the College of L&S
USC - International Relations

I notice that UCB doesn't have International Relations Department and many students studying International Relations tend to choose Political Science as their major there. However, I am not really interested in Political Science and think that I will choose Development Studies or something related to International Studies if I am going to UCB. (But Development Studies is not something that I really really want to study. >_<)

For USC, I know it has a strong alumni connection here and overseas, and I think the connection will help for my career. Since I live in LA, USC seems a good choice to me because it is near home and it does offer International Relations.

Personally I would choose USC, but because of UCB's reputation and prestige, it is really hard for me to make a decision. I don't know which one of them is the best fit for my major, so I really need you guys to help me out. Thank you for reading and giving me advices. ^^

choose USC! forget about reputation and prestige, what’s important is getting a good education and skills that you can use in the real world to prove what you are worth.

Thank you for the reply. ^^ That’s what I think too, but my parents always want me to go for UCB ( just because of its ranking? ). And you are right, one’s ability is not determined by the reputation of his school, but his personal ablitity and charisma. I think I know where I should go. ^^ Thanks again.

One is not significantly better than the other in terms of academics… So I think you should just pick where you like better, and it sees like that’s USC. Go to USC!

I don’t know what your financial situation is, but for a potentially better education Cal is significantly cheaper than USC. However, if Berkeley doesn’t have the major you are looking for it could make a difference. I would say Cal also has a better alumni network overseas than USC if you want that option. Also maybe I am misinterpreting what you want your major to be, but Haas does have an international business degree; though I guess it’s tough to get in.USC degree is good in CA, but frankly CAL’s is more prestigious even in LA and should make it easier to get a job anywhere you live at in the future.
