UC Berkeley Waitlist Thread

Now, the number of addresses have switched back to two from four and I don’t see a FAQ for admitted students. Does it mean that the admission officers reviewed my application and decided to give me a reject email…?

wait what link of admitted students faq

@dragondo8 There is no faq for admitted students. Are you talking about the general faq and such? The status update faq or the helpful links on the right side?

@xual95 on the same page as you buddy.

Also for all you EECS waitlists. I know of one friend who chose UCLA CSE over Cal EECS. One datapoint, but hey there are people who say no to EECS. You folks do have a decent shot.

One of my friends chose UCLA over UCB for Civil Engineering, for anyone waitlisted.

Since I have been lurking this college confidential, I have looked many posts to identify what glitches really signalize our acceptances. As many of you guys know, the school releases their decisions at around 1600. According to the thread made by freshman waitlisters for this year, they speculated appearing four addresses is definitely a glitch as the admissions officers update their decisions or reviewing, and all of admitted freshman students had started looking their FAQ switched to Jan Start or something that would be useful information for their class enrollments just before their decisions came out at around 1430 while their four addresses appear on their side panel at MAP@Berkeley. Students who were not seeing four addresses and FAQ changed on their portal didn’t get it on the day the school releases their decisions. (The first wave for freshman waitlists for this year was on 5/5/2017 Friday, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20634436/#Comment_20634436).

I guessed this glitch would apply to our situation as well. I looked one of my friend’s FAQ page who already admitted to Cal as a transfer student, and he got the FAQ title saying that “Admitted Transfer Student FAQ” or something like different title from ours.

My speculation based on freshman’s decisions is that admitted students will see four addresses tomorrow at around 1330-1400, and they will start seeing FAQ changed from 1430 to 1530.

@anonymousros I took a risk and wrote about a legal issue I was involved with after getting into a minor car accident a month ago in which the other person attempted insurance fraud. I wrote about how I advocated for myself, got lawyers and inspectors involved in a local court case and won, etc. and how I’ve transformed the past two years into a politically active and empowered person. I mentioned how in high school I was also involved in a trial case involving an abusive ex-boyfriend where I was too fearful to stand up for myself. I chose a very personal topic, and I hope they like it. I was honestly scared. I wanted to go the conventional route of listing reasons why UCB is the perfect school and how I’d contribute. I thought I’d illustrate an example of who I am as an individual rather than defaulting to the usual explanation.

@Orangered123 At least your GPA didn’t go down! It means you’ve been consistently working hard. I chose not to include my grades because I had a bad Spring quarter due to extenuating circumstances, so my GPA actually lowered. I really wish I wrote my essay more like yours. It sounds good because you mentioned extracurricular activities and what you were involved in since the UC app. I hope you get in! You seem like a dedicated person

I didn’t have any updated grades to report so I just did the essay portion. Originally I was pretty confident in my essay but who knows at this point. Everyone who has posted about what they wrote about sound great and makes me wonder if I should have gone a different way. :-? Anyways, I split mine in two portions. The first was something personal about my family/how grateful I am for this opportunity to stay local. The second was about original research (psychology) I did during fall 2016 and how I submitted it to a national psychology conference, which is what I wrote in my original app. Then for the waitlist statement I wrote an update about how they invited me and presented it in April, (the day before decisions came out lol), that whole experience, and how an editor of a psych journal gave me her info so I could reach out and work with her to take the steps needed in getting it published. I’m super nervous and really hoping they start releasing decisions today!

anyone has any weird glitches yet?

I had four addresses yesterday, fingers crossed my find out today

did you see the 4 addresses through your phone or on your computer?

I met a friend earlier today who is also on the waitlist. He told me that a number of his friends who were also on the waitlist were sent rejection notices in the last couple of days. It seems that Cal is not following how they did freshmen waitlists.

@Orangered123 really? Some transfer waitlists were sent rejection letters already? Hopefully a good sign for us :-SS

dude that is scary. now i hope if we get notified its not a rejection

@MysteriousSoup that sounds amazing, and very interesting although it is unconventional. I hope you get accepted

@MysteriousSoup The essay you wrote sounds extremely interesting. Focusing on a single pivotal event in your life can make a great writing piece.

@blasbcptransfer That sounds amazing, I’m sure they’ll be impressed by the conference presentation and psych journal invite.

And yes. I asked him during the conversation if he was sure and he said he was. They learned about their rejections in the past few days or so. It’s good news that we haven’t gotten those letters.

@Orangered123 thanks! Yeah that definitely changes things up then. For the last few days I was hoping for an email from Berkeley and now i’m glad I never got one lol. Looking back at my emails, last time I got a notification to check my portal at 4:00 so hopefully if they release some today it will be the time [-O<

What are they waiting for… They already know how many seats are available by now.

@Sophiasssss I just figure that the first wave get their offers, they have a certain amount of time to accept, after however that turns out a second wave comes. Repeat until they feel the class is complete. Not sure if that’s how the wait list works but that’s what makes sense to me. I’m just relieved that I wasn’t in the wave of rejections the last few days.
