that is right we should all just assume we didn’t get in.
@Ohm888 Why are you even in this thread?
^^^
@Sophiasssss What benefit do they get from all of us not appealing? Don’t appeals follow the same process? Write an essay they read and look over along with our original application?
I mean Ohm888 likes to check threads here answering questions and helping people that are confused about the transfer process and such. She probably noticed the activity, checked in here and offered her 2 cents of advice so we aren’t too let down when we probably hear disappointing news.
I would probably be more healthy and better for my psyche to follow through with that advice, but I really, really, really don’t want to. I think I’ll keep the hope and wait for the inevitable heartbreak instead. I assume most people here don’t want to do that too though.
On the topic of decisions, I don’t think they’ll be releasing anything today. I’d guess probably at the earliest another wave is tomorrow. I’m hoping earlier than Friday though.
i just wished they would tells us already because i gotta figure out my financial stuff and where i’m gonna live.
Just curious, what makes you unconfident that they would release decisions today?
And in response to Ohm (yay physics), thanks for the advice, but it doesn’t hurt to continue to ponder and dream about an acceptance.
@studentzunite My guess is that since it’s a Monday. Not extremely well though out, but I somewhat doubt that they would release decisions on the first day of the week.
Sharing this because to me it doesn’t make sense. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
It states that Berkeley admitted 3867 applicants out of which only 2467 enrolled. Where did the1200 go?Waitlist? None of us have heard back yet! I mean in my head it’s not making sense but it also could be because of finals!
If someone could explain that will be a great help!
@Ppoodleddoodle Universities tend to admit many more people than they want since they know not everyone that is admitted will attend. They base this on the “yield percentage” of the previous years. If historically Berkeley has a 66% yield rate, that would mean that out of every three students admitted, two attend. Based on that they admit say 3000, while hoping the 2000 people say yes. The 1200 in that figure that didn’t go chose to go to Berkeley and instead chose UCLA, SD, other UC’s, CSU’s, privates or decided not to attend this year.
Waitlists work when for some reason the yield is below the expected/hoped for acceptance. Say they were expecting 2000 out of 3000 admitted students to say yes to berkeley. They have 2000 spots they can fill reasonably. For some reason though only 1800 students say yes to Berkeley in this scenario. They keep people on the waitlists so that they can admit the 200 required to round out the admit class to the preferred 2000.
Now it’s more complicated than that since for transfer waitlists, yield percentage of the major also matters and such, but this is just the general jist of it.
Oh I’m sorry. Didnt know it was a private thread. I only saw people really tormented and reached out. I will leave.
Anyone call them yesterday?
Also, for last year. If waitlisted transfer students didn’t hear back by June 23rd, then they were rejected. No idea of its the same this year, but the 23rd last year was on a Thursday. If that translated, that would mean this Friday would be the final acceptance date.
I speculate it’s the 23rd because I think the UC’s or Cal might have a last day to accept is June 30th situation. Since Cal gives 7 days for waitlisted students to accept, the 23rd is the last they they accept any people.
