UC Berkeley Waitlist Thread

@Orangered123 If you don’t mind sharing, what did you write your essay on? I’m curious as to how others approached the essay

@bbybear I spent my first paragraph talking about communuty/political activities/activism I had been a part of since I sent in my apps.

My second paragraph was where I spent the most words and time. I mentioned my upcoming summer internship, how I finished my major prerequisites in the fall, an upper division prerequisite in the winter and the fact that I went out of my way to attend another community college to finish another major prerequisite. Then I discussed about my courses and how I took a lot of non major or Igetc required courses just for fun and how those tied in with my major.

In my third paragraph I spoke about specific Cal courses and programs I was interested in. Why I wanted to go to Cal over any other school because of what made their program for my major unique.

My conclusion paragraph was a short blurb about why and what about Cal I loved.

That was my essay in a nutshell. How did you structure and write your essay?

Hoping, that against all odds, they release decisions today. Admission or rejection, I want to knooooooow.

Has anyone gotten any notification or update that infoms you to upload materials like your transcript with your final grades when you log in to your UCB account? It would be under the upload materials section.

I’m forcing myself not to check the portal until at least next Friday but its driving me a little nuts. Last night I had back to back stress dreams about checking my email and getting college related messages. Here’s to hoping no one goes crazy before results get back.

I’m also curious to see how everyone wrote their essays. Mine was almost entirely about how a club that I founded earlier in the year did at a competition that didn’t happen until after applications were due.

For some reason, I decided to write it in the style of an cheesy love letter, so I hope that it wasn’t too “cute” or whatever. Someone on the other thread posted that they wrote their essay in iambic pentameter, though, so at least mine won’t be the only weird one.

@aquarious123 On my portal, there is a drop down box which allows me to upload an unofficial transcript. I did not submit one when I initially turned in my waitlist opt-in, so it automatically showed up on my portal. As it was optional (and it’s now fairly late to submit anything new), I don’t think you should worry.

@saimin123 I was also considering writing my essay in a cutesy love letter style! Was going to follow through with writing the essay until a couple of professors I asked for a second opinion about the idea pushed me away from it.

I wish I had done something creative but if I did I doubt I would have been able to fit so much content in my essay. To each their own. Hopefully we all get positive news next Friday.

In regards to my essay, I used the first paragraph to talk about how I first visited Cal in 4th grade while on a college tour. I connected that first exposure to how it influenced my educational and career aspirations and my desire to be a Golden Bear. Basically, it was an answer to “What does Cal mean to you?”

In my second paragraph, I provided updates on Spring coursework. My last major pre-req was in-progress, so I included my midterm exam grades and expected course grade to assure them that I was doing well in the course.

My third paragraph adressed how Cal would benefit me, as well as how I would contribute to the Cal community. I talked about the organizations and programs I was interested in, and how my volunteer/personal experience would prove beneficial in those pursuits. This was my longest and most detailed paragraph.

I concluded by relating everything back to my first paragraph and my strong desire to attend the school.

someone should call admissions and get some info on the first wave

i sound rude in the phone so i cant do it lol

I actually called them this morning. Asked them if we should expect anything, they said since SIRs were yesterday it’s doubtful. Told to keep an eye on our email and such.

The person I spoke to gave no real information. He was really vague. Maybe if another person called we might get some actual answers?

apparently they are late with HS waitlisted students in notifying them if they got in or not so i doubt we will hear anything soon. why do they do this

Fu they are getting rejected. We have no hope

some high school students already get off the Waitlist. Not all of them were rejected

Freshmen waitlists are actually have quite a good shot. In the past few years around half of Cal’s freshman waitlist students are accepted off the waitlist.

Transfers on the other hand have no data. Especially since the transfer waitlist only began last year.

My addresses were 4 for couple days, but I just checked and it changed to 2 again

does anyone have any news???

Im dying over here

Same, nothing on my end. None of my fellow waitlisted friends have heard anything. I’m still betting we hear back at the earliest this Friday.

Are there any other transfers waitlisted for EECS here?

No news from my side too. I’m waitlisted for Integrative Biology, but already accepted my SIR to Davis under biochemistry and molecular biology over there. Still crossing my fingers! Gluck to us!
