UC Berkeley Website GPA question

On the website, it says that the average admitted freshman GPA is around "4.37 (weighted)". Is this just sophomore/junior years, or is it cumulative? Also, is this capped or uncapped? (I'm inclined to believe that it's uncapped, but... you never know...)

When my sons and I toured there the admissions people said they add one point for EVERY AP.

^ That’s pretty standard.

@collegevetting - so… uncapped, then? :slight_smile: What about cumulative vs. just sophomore + junior years? Did they mention anything about that?

@jackson61 Uncapped was how they explained it, for the admissions decision (not the initial qualification for UC application minimum, that is capped.) They didn’t expressly say about which years, but I think I read elsewhere that they LOOK at everything, but for your gpa they use 10-11. I’m a LITTLE unsure that I read that specifically about Berkeley, UCLA is much more specific about that. However, it makes sense because only relatively recently did a majority of California move to a model where high school starts in 9th grade, and it had to do with moving sixth graders to middle schools (which used to be Junior High schools) so that 9th graders had to shift to high schools for space reasons.

@collegevetting - Ahh, I hope you’re right… my uncapped UC GPA is 4.32, not too far from Berkeley’s average of 4.37… but my cumulative/unweighted are somewhat lower…

Different people there said multiple times ‘we give an extra point for EVERY AP’. On that point, I am personally confident, and I have two sons going through the process as well, so I paid attention. Their uncapped isn’t as high as yours, but they took a lot of APs so it was important to us, as well.

@collegevetting - Good luck to them! :)

@jackson61 Good luck to you as well!

@collegevetting Thank you! :)
