UC Berkeley-will this destroy my chances?

I am a psych major currently at a community college and have a 4.0. I might drop my bio class, which would cause me to have only 57 units, and leave me missing one pre-req. I am really debating if I should drop it or not, thoughts? Please help, anything is appreciated.

Yes, you will be screwed.That is if you are applying for the fall 2012 semester…They are REALLY strict on that 60 units, as well as pre-reqs particularly for that major.

@House - Pretty blunt there, eh?

@OP - I think I’m gonna agree with House… however blunt he is about it =P. I don’t think you should drop it if you can help it. Just try to keep it at a C and pray that it won’t affect your chances.

I guess I will have to continue taking it :/

@ineedtissues
yup…you have to keep that class. there is no choice for you if you want to go to Berkeley. I think you can relax since they may not evaluate your last semester’s grade that carefully. :blush: anyway, good luck!

You’d be screwed. I actually got in as a psych major last fall with a 4.0 and not having taken bio, but I did have 60 units. The 57 units would be a killer.

is it really that hard to get a C?

yes. Every negative things will destroy your chance.

Do not drop it! If you don’t meet the requirements for ANY UC or state school, you will be denied entrance to the school.

“house” was not being blunt, he was stating the fact that CAL will not accept CC transfers with under 60 units. period. even with all prereqs and a 4.0. so don’t drop the class. good luck!

yeah, i don’t see how that was blunt. there is no grey area with the 60 units thing. and really, i don’t think you should drop it. if you drop it you won’t be able to get into any UC this fall. lets say the decisions for berkeley come out and you got in. most likely its gonna say your condition is that you have to pass that class with a C. i highly doubt the condition is that you have to get a B or A. just passing. so you can drop the class, save your GPA, and apply again next year OR just take a C and go to berkeley this fall

if my point wasn’t clear; it doesn’t matter what your grade is for this semester. their decision is based on the info you already sent in. as long as you pass the class you are good to go

Dude if you are having trouble getting a C you’re not going to cut it for Berkeley in the first place. If you just want to maintain your 4.0 by giving up an opportunity to attend UC Berkeley slap yourself. If its another scenario I might have some pity for you.

anyway, let us all know if you get accepted on the 27th! duh, that is the real challege. good thing you posted your question—lots of good advice on here. and good work maintaining a 4.0, that is not easy. seriously.
