UC Berkeley!!

Hi all,

I was accepted as a freshman last year to UCB but i enrolled in another school. I'm having second thoughts about my current school and am contemplating a transfer to UCB. I was wondering if anyone knew the UC's policy on my situation. Is it similar to deferred enrollment or am i thrown into the same applicant pool as everyone else? Basically, would i have an advantage as a transfer applicant?

Are you going to a California Community College (CCC), a California State University (CSU), a different UC campus or a some other type of four year university or college. Berkeley normally accepts transfers only in their junior year from any of these types of institutions and it makes a big difference where you are when you try to transfer to UC Berkeley. I doubt having been accepted as a freshman will play any role in whether you are accepted as transfer to Berkeley.

CCC transfers have the highest priority and you would have very good chance if you are at a CCC. Transfers from other UCs have lower priority but a fair number do get accepted. If you are at a private or out of state four year college you have much lower priority and it is very unlikely you would be accepted as a transfer student. If you are at a CSU you have the absolute lowest priority and practically no chance of acceptance at UC Berkeley as a transfer.

Q. If I am unable to attend the semester for which I am admitted, will Berkeley defer my admission to a later term?

A. No. Admission is valid only for the term in which you are admitted. If you wish to attend Berkeley in a future term, you must reapply without an admission guarantee. You will compete with all applicants who apply for the same term.

If you are at a 4-year, drop out, go to a CCC and begin planning how to transfer within X amount of years with a very high GPA.

You could mention on your transfer personal statement your reasons for not going to Berkeley and the reasons why you changed your mind now. If I were you, then I WOULD mention that I was accepted before. Berkeley doesn’t guarantee you admission as a transfer just because you were accepted as a freshman, but it may be in your favor if they knew.

@Lemaitre1 i’m at a private school on the east coast so i guess i’m not looked very favorably upon as a candidate.

@WingedYoshi thanks for that blurb. pretty much sums up what i had imagined.

I think it will help you since getting into CAL as a freshman is much much harder than as a transfer. I would mention it when you apply.

So,if you are a freshman at 4-year private college(in East cost), you can apply when you are a sophomore so you can transfer when you are a junior??
