what is your chance to get into berkeley if you have a :

not white ethnicity
and a good college essay
and excellent guidance and teacher recomendation

BestMiler1:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCB: Reach

I am NY Resident and have two cousins who went there, one from NY and the other from CA

Best:

Not to pinch your hope and you won't know until you apply but out-of-state undergrad Berkeley admit is exceedingly difficult. I would include other schools and UC's in your search. Your GPA makes it a reach too unless you test really really well. Public U's like Berkeley admits more on scores and GPA and good EC's and recs are secondary.

They don't even accept recommmendations!

The Berkeley admit rate is around 21 percent for OOS students.

http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp

I know this is ridiculous... BERKELEY NEEDS TO CHANGE THEIR TYPE OF UNIVERSITY... STUDENTS LIKE ME WHO ARE OUT OF STATE HAVE NO CHANCE TO GET INTO ONE OF THE TOP SCHOOL IN AMERICAN JUST BECUASE ITS A STATE UNVERSITY... THIS IS BOGUS MAN, THAT IS SO UNFAIR, SO WHAT IM A OUT OF STATE RESIDENT, WHY SHOULD I HAVE A LESS CHANCE TO GET IN TO A COLLEGE BECAUSE IM NOT FROM THE SAME STATE AS THE UNIVERSITY IS IN. I MEAN WE ARE ALL AMERICANS, WHERE IS THE UNITY BETWEEN US IF SOME OF US ARE DIFFERENTIATED BECAUSE WE ARE FROM ANOTHER PART OF THE COUNTRY.

GO TO YOUR OWN STATE UNIVERSITY THEN! PAY YOUR TAXES THERE AND GO TO YOUR OWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND IM NOT EVEN EXCITED IM JUST TYPING IN CAPS AND PUTTING IN EXCLAMATION POINTS AND EMOTICONS!!!!! !!!

:p

for uc's only 10 and 11 grades count.

so maybe your gpa would be higher.

With an instate GPA of 3.5, the chances of getting in are still very slim

"for uc's only 10 and 11 grades count.

so maybe your gpa would be higher

If thats the case then my gpa is 3.9, the only reason my gpa is so low because i came from a very violent and bad neighborhood, where motivation in doing good was bad, and the school was very bad. But in sophmore year i moved to a good school and because of my troubles in my previous school i took the IB PROGRAM, so hopefully that overshadows it... I ONLY TOOK THE IB PROGRAM BECAUSE TO INCREASE MY CHANCES OF GETTING IN BERKELEY. IF i cant get in, then BERKELEY AdMISSION OFFICERS ARE HORRIBLE, because not everyone has the luck to go to good schools or private schools and have the best oppurtunities they can get. LIFE IS HORRIBLE FOR A FAMILY WHO IS AN IMMIGRANT IN THE U.S. you must go through so many hardships to become successful, and sometimes those hardships affect your futur in a negative way.

why freak out so much over...berkeley. it's just... berkeley. whatever

all my life me and my two other cuz wanted to go to Berkeley, and they both made it.... now its my time, i would love to move to CA, tired of cold NY, and i love berkeley. like my cuzs i want to have a family tradition of going to berkeley

I don't think your chances are too hot, but apply if you really wanna go there.

oh well gl to all who wants to get into their top choices.... MAY YOU ALL BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE

Actually, Berkeley accepts many people from poor backgrounds. Berkeley rejects plenty of people with perfect stats. You may actually have higher chance than perfect applicants that havent gone through any difficulties in life

i guess i see what you mean.. but dont feel pressured to go to berk just because of some tradition. I live in CA... and it's definitely not as exciting as everyone makes it out to be. Berk is pretty prestigious I suppose, but its huge, impersonal, and you can get lost easily if you aren't sure about what academic direction you want to head in. Plus, the campus isn't too hot either (the hobo scene just isn't for me). Personally, I wouldnt touch the UC-system with a twenty-foot pole.

lol.... i wish there was not such a competition in this world for going to good colleges.... again gl to all those who want to get into their top choice colleges..
6 MORE WEEKS AND WE ALL FIND OUT FOR REGULAR APPLICANTS

Yes.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE APPLIED ESPECIALLY TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::::::EEEK:::::

bestmiller,

UC Berkeley is a public university under the state, and thus its undergraduate mission is to educate the residents of california.

think of it this way: at least it accepts out-of-state applicants. state colleges could theoretically choose not to accept anybody from outside its own state.

seriously, dont get mad california students study hard and their parents pay taxes, i mean u should go to your own state school and try to make the best of it, don't you dare complain, if you want to attend then come live here and have ur parents pay the taxes,
