Best, you will have a better shot if your essays show how much you want to be at berkeley. They want to know how you will improve the school. And don't listen to son of liberty. Yes, its a big school, but after a couple of weeks it doesn't seem too big. If we all listened to posters like SofL, we'd be in the suberbs going to tiny LACs. (god forbid you meet new and different people!)

lol is ur 3.5 gpa weighted or unweighted?
and why are you frekaing out if you already applied?
don't worry =)
i'm sick of the cold and i want to go to cali too
lol except i heard cali kids are b-tches
w/e good luck!
(and do they really only take 10 and 11 grades? then how do they compare kids to each other without recalculating everyone's gpa..)

^ Yes only sophomore and junior grades are considered.

That's the least of your worries. Get into UCB and then complain.

lol true =P
and wow..no one informed me about that till now. so does that mean they recalculate your gpa? (weighted or unweighted?)

It's all explained on their website UC Pathways

thanks eastbaymom =)
it says max of 2 courses in 10th grade can be given extra points for honors level...is there no maximum for 11th grade? i think i'm calculating it correctly..

Just to let you know, Berkeley wheather is not the kind of "California Weather" that people love to talk about/see. Its in the Bay Area and therefore can be quite damp/cold, so dont go there expecting to be able to wear shorts and flip flops year round.

It is definately warmer than NY, but if you're looking for good weather year round you'd have to go down south to the coast.

You could and I usually do wear flip flops on every non-rainy day. I am usually in pants, but I like it better that way. The weather here can be damp, or cold, but it doesn't rain that often, seemingly just slightly more than inland of southern california. Compared to New York, the bay area does have great weather year round. Sure, it's not 72 slightly breezy every day like San Diego, but it's pretty close!

Stillajunior asked "...is there no maximum for 11th grade? i think i'm calculating it correctly..

The cap is 8 semesters. Make sure you check that you are using the UC-approved AP and Honors course for YOUR school. For example, My daughter attends a Cali school and in her case, Honors Geometry (taken in 10th grade) did not get an extra point; Honors Math Analysis (taken in 11th grade) did as it is the approved Honors Math course for her high school.

EBM.

*The University assigns extra points for up to eight semesters of University-certified honors-level and Advanced Placement courses taken in the last three years of high school

A=5 points, B=4 points, C=3 points. No more than two yearlong UC-approved honors level courses taken in the 10th grade may be given extra points. A grade of D in an honors or advanced placement course does not earn extra points.

The courses must be in the following "a-g" subjects: history/social science, English, advanced mathematics, laboratory science, language other than English, and visual and performing arts. Also, they must be certified as honors courses by the University. In these subjects, as well as in computer science, acceptable honors-level courses include Advanced Placement courses, Higher Level and designated Standard Level International Baccalaureate courses, and college courses that are transferable to the University.

D and F Grades: If you have earned a D or F in an "a-g" course, you must repeat the course with a grade of C or better. The original D or F grade will not be included in the GPA calculation, and the new grade will be used. If you repeat a course in which you initially earned a grade of C, the second grade will not be used.

I Live In Ny.... Are You Serious? Dont You Know Anything About Your Own Country?.... Ny Residents Pay One Of The Highest Taxes In The Country.... Put It Like This.... What You Cant Pay, I Come In And Fill For You....so Dont Give Me Any Bs

is your 3.5 gpa after u recalculate it to UC standards?
cause 3.4 is minimum (***...2. something is minimum for in state.)

3.5 is my unweighted gpa according to U.C standards....."(***...2. something is minimum for in state.)". whats that?

idk what happened there. oh i said w-t-f and i think 2.8 is the minimum for in-state (it's so low compared to OOS)

well, dont oos'ers have to pay more tuition? wouldnt that counteract the tax difference?

Thank you very much shark for clarifying that to people who dont understand....and again
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THOSE THAT HAVE APPLIED TO COLLEGES REGULAR DECISION.... MAY WE ALL BE SUCCESSFUL IN LIFE
