Hey guys,

I'm a sophomore at High School and i want to know what are my chances of getting into berkeley (preferably from someone in Cal) My GPA this year is 3.7 unweighed (4.0 weighted) but as a freshman i had 4.0 uw and 4.2w.
I am an active member of Future Business Leaders of America, have won regional awards in accounting. Have won best spanish student in Georgia on the National Spanish Exam. I haven't helped too much in community service but I plan to do so next year.
Could I maybe get any suggestions and tips!
Thanks

Your GPA is good but ideally get it to 3.8-3.9 at least for your unweighed GPA. Take the SAT I and score >2200, take a couple of SAT subject tests and score >760 in all of them. You can also take the ACT scoring >30 in them. If you do that, you still won’t get in. Your ECs are quite week. Enter more clubs, given you like them. Do community service etc. Good luck.

University of California looks at 10th-11th grade for their gpa for admissions, and they only weight GPAs for AP classes for out of state, including GA. Still, u should be fine so far, because you’ve barely started your hs journey.

You will not be applying in your current state as a sophomore, so chancing you now is going to be inaccurate. Work hard, keep a high GPA in rigorous classes, get good St Test scores, and maintain extracurricular activities, in that order for most important to least.

Visit their website for more information about stats and more.

I will be moving to San Diego next year so I will apply as a CA student.

By the way, chancing as sophomore is pretty much a waste of time. You might be doing research in PRIMES in your senior year or you might have a GPA of 3.0. Your sophomore year is by no means a determining fact in your future success. As crtexxx said, some universities do pay attention to your sophomore and junior years, but most don’t. The ones that do don’t focus a lot on it either. But anyway, your sophomore year is good so far. Once again, good luck!

Thanks man, appreciate it!
