UC Berkeley

Though it’s way past the UC filing deadline, I received an email from UC Berkeley saying that they still accept some applicants. My SAT and SAT II scores all qualify me for eligibility by examination alone but I was still asked to write some essays.

Seeing that my test scores make me eligible for admittance, is UC Berkeley a guaranteed school for me then?

NO. Being eligible by scores alone does not guarantee you a spot in the slightest way. Eligibility by examination alone requires that you have a 1400 SAT and 1760 (or 1850 if nonresident) composite SAT II. Those figures are only slightly higher than the average numbers for accepted students into UCB. This allows you to qualify for admission to a UC, not necessarily UCB. There are other factors involved, too, like GPA, ECs, etc.

I am surprised that Berkeley is accepting applictions in January. I hadn't heard of that at the undergraduate level. I thought they were fairly strict with the November deadline.
