i was wondering if a 2050 SAT and 4.3 GPA out of 4 would get me into berkeley. i don't have any of extracurriculars worth mentioning. if not, what kind of sat scores would? thx.

raise ur sats above 2100's

ur gpa is nice
ur sat's are average for UCB

but if u say ur ECs suck
then thats no good

It's pretty numbers-driven. You can see more on the U.C. admissions site. Basically, the higher your GPA, the "lower" you can score on the SAT's. It's a ratio formula. But it's not just the I, it's the II's, etc. added together for that formula.

Also, for Berkeley it depends on the college/dept. Engineering is tougher to get into because the GPA's coming in are just so high to begin with, as are scores. Most applicants have unweighted 4.0's.

The people with the best likelihood of admissions are those with medium-high to high numbers PLUS one or more disadvantages or challenges, as defined on that admissions site.

You also need a very good essay for Berkeley, esp. if you don't have those challenges. There are people recently who haven't gotten in but have very high numbers, because they showed no particular passion about the U in their essay, or any real focus on Berkeley in particular & their fit, and they had no personal challenges they had overcome.

i just registered here recently so im not too sure where to post, got a 210 on my PSAT, and been do doing practice SATs and getting around 2050s.

not really any ECs because i've moved around alot. 7 years in China, 1 year in Israel, 3 years in Singapore, 5 years in Illinois, and now 1 year in Cali, is that something i can put on the application?

basically just want to get in for a good education, since i have No Idea what i want to do. I would predict sat IIs to be over 700s. anymore replies would be Greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, just going for a good education isn't good enough. You need to show that not only are you an outstanding applicant, but you gotta be able to contribute something to them. I remember one of my teachers telling me that elite universities aren't interested in how they can make you look good- they're interested in your potential for making them look good. With that being said, I don't think just having a great academic record is enough seeing that lots of people at Berkeley have great academic records too.

Like the post above yours mentioned, get great academic record, find a passion that would interest Berkeley, find some ECs that you like, wow them with your essay, and hope for the best.

For UC's, your EC's will have the greatest impact if they involve academics outside of school. Science fair, writing in the newspaper, making a business are all good.

pinno,
Please do yourself a favor and go to one of the UC pages. The UCs are completely based on a formula which combines GPA and SAT. Also, if you are not in high school in California, please read carefully the classes you MUST take to be considered for admission.
For instance, you must take one year of performing or visual arts. Even if you are out of state there is no exception.

Assuming you are a California resident,
