UC Berkeley....?

Hi guys. So I'm thinking about applying to UC Berkeley this coming up school year...But I'm kind of confused as to how the whole University of California requirements thing works. I know it's harder to get in if you're out of state (like me...from Illinois), but I still want to try. haha.

So my question is: What are the minimum requirements (like, lowest ACT/SAT2 subj score possible....or lowest GPA, etc)

Thanks. =)

look at this website: http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp</a></p>

it has in-state vs. out-of state acceptance rates and average GPA/test scores

Haha. I already saw that. But thanks. I guess what I’m truly confused by is whether I’m applying to the University of California system and then applying to Berkeley (as in, applying to 2 different things…like to make Berkeley I have to make UC first. and if I don’t make the UC system, then I can’t apply to Berkeley…) or if I’m just applying to Berkeley straight on. (did ANY of that make sense???) I mean, I saw this site:

[UC Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/exam_eligibility.html)

where it had minimum test scores…but if I don’t meet those requirements, should I not apply to Berkeley at all? Or should I give up UC entirely?

You will apply to Berkeley using the UC application. On the application you choose which campuses you are applying to and pay $60 for each. [University of California - Admissions](Apply now | UC Admissions)

The UC system has identified 14 factors to be used in admissions, but each campus decides how to weight the factors [University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/general_info/uc_reviews/freshman_app.html) So Berkeley will make the decision as to whether they will admit you, not the UCsystem.

The UC system has identified minimum qualifications to be considered for admission at all campuses, but it is important to remember that meeting those minimums only means they will look at your application, not that you will be admitted. Students accepted to Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCI, and UCSB generally exceed the minumums, and those admitted to UC Berkeley FAR exceed them.

Use the Eligibility Calculator here http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/scholarship_reqs.html</a> to see if you are eligible. Click on the box at top right for the calculator.

The “Eligibility by Examination” link you reference is a different type of eligibility - most often used by students who cannot show they have completed the A-G requirements. It is important to note that at Berkeley most applicants will far exceed the test scores listed and will also have completed the A-G requriements and have UC GPAs over 4.0.
