I’m entering my second year of college and I’ll be attending three different California community colleges. This is because the community college I am currently attending doesn’t offer certain major classes, is VERY difficult to get classes, and I simply want to transfer ASAP. My first semester I failed 4/5 classes, but redeemed myself the second semester. But this set me back from the plan I originally had to transfer in two years. I read on one of these posts before that UCB doesn’t like it when students attended different colleges all at once. Is this true?? Will attending more than one affect my chances for attendance to UCB? My major is undecided but I’m leaning towards something to do with either Business or Psych. And also, three colleges may seem like a lot, but I’m taking easier classes at the other two schools and can manage.
yasmine2j, hopefully they don’t mind! I’m registered for 4 schools (Napa Valley College, Solano Community College, Diablo Valley College, and City College of San Francisco) this fall. You’d be amazed at the classes and scheduling choices I have available
I’ve retaken all my first term classes during the winter 2015 and spring 2015 term for A’s. I just wont be able to transfer in the two years now because I was placed in a lower math so I have a bunch of math classes to take
I attended Oberlin College, Pasadena City College, City College of San Francisco, and took online courses at Ohlone College and Monterrey Peninsula College. So that’s one out-of-state private school and four CCCs. I was sometimes enrolled in classes at more than one school at the same time. I got accepted to Berkeley this spring. Attending multiple schools doesn’t negatively affect your chances. And for my situation it was a great way to fulfill IGETC and my major pre-reqs.
@yasmine2j Consider online courses as well. Going to multiple colleges and doing online REALLY opens up options. And, obviously, you have Rate My Professor to really know what you’re getting yourself into for specific classes and teachers.
@briank82 question: When you did the online, did you double verify that it was acceptable at the UC? Or does the site verify? Was it extension? I know there is that California virtual college site. I’m just wondering your process to ensure transferability.
@lindyk8 Great questions. These aren’t extension classes, they’re considered online classes and at these colleges, there is no differentiation between a traditional on campus class and an online class on transcripts or reporting. I think at most all CCCs, online classes are viewed as being exactly the same.
I would be screwed if these didn’t transfer, but Psych 101 is Psych 101 if taken at a CCC on campus vs. online. At least, that’s what I’m lead to believe
@briank82 Ok, so I get it, these were at a CC, the ones that are listed in the catalog, day, evening, online. Thx. There are other places like BYU, and I’ve always been worried about those. Best practice is probably always a CCC or transferable extension.
Ahhh, yes, @lindyk8! Exactly. Not “online” from out of state distance or extension learning, or Phoenix University type classes … all normal classes from a CCC catalog.
