i submitted my berkeley app last night. please let me know what you think.

i go to a very competitive hs in illinois. class of 1000+. Caucasian, male.

One question on uc grade reporting: It said they dont count any Freshman classes at honors level (HL), so i listed them all as NH. But my school consideres many of these HL-so should i have listed them hl?
also- i think i read uc only looks at soph junior grades. Is that true?

Essays: decent

ECs- (i dont have a lot, but was active in the ones i did)
BOY SCOUTs: Eagle scout, senior patrol leader (troop president), asst senior patrol leader, troop guide, patrol leader
VENTURE SCOUTS: president of venture crew, vice president, crew chief on summer backpacking trek (2wks) in NM.
STUDENT MENTOR: (seniors only) studnet teach low level math class. help teacher and mentor/tutor studnets in class.

community service:
planned&led eagle service project-collected equipment for poor kids in needy area (being vague, sorry)-collected 600lbs+, spent 80hrs total
have participated in 2dozen+ other service activities in boy scout toatlling 150 additional hours

For my ECs, do you think this looks ok? i have read that adcoms like to see dedication to a few activites, so is it ok that i didnt do a lot.

Please let me know what you think for berkeley. THANKS!

i took off my hs weighted gpa b/c it wont be the same as the uc calculated one. Im not sure what they will calcuate it to be.

oh yeah i also had a job summer 2005.

buummmmppp

are those classes really all honors? i know a lot of schools just slap on honors for fun, but honors in california mean that it is significantly harder than normal.

The UCs only count the sophomore and the junior years. Since you were a perfect 4.0 in those years and took at least four year long honors courses, your UC GPA is 4.3333 (4.0*24=96 +8 grade points=104 divided by 24 courses taken =4.3333).
You took tough courses both in freshmen and senior years, and had good grades in freshmen year to go with your pretty good ECs.

You should have no problem getting into any UC you apply to, even as an out-of-state student, as long as your recommendations are good. This applies, of course, even to UCB which is the toughest UC to get accepted at.

P.S. It's spelled UC Berkeley--which I'm sure you know since you spelled it correctly the second time above.

Good luck.

uc's dont have essays i think

and u have an excellent chance

i doubt they'll turn u down because i bet u have significantly higher stats than most OOS students applying

noril07:

UCB: Slight Reach (out of state)

i hope you're right. (about getting in).
Also- UCs def have essays, but not recs.

and i think my schools honors courses would be considered honors in california.
