How does it work? My family makes under 80,000 so does it guarentee that I'll get my tuition paid off? Will I get it all four years of my college career? Is there a GPA requirement or any other requirements? And is it the same as a Cal Grant?

Blue&Gold guarantees that (those who qualify) will have all systemwide fees covered for four years with any combination of grants and/or scholarships. Because Cal Grant is a grant that is for systemwide fees at UCs (and CSUs, but that’s not relevant here), it satisfies Blue&Gold. If you already have Cal Grant, you will not receive additional monies from Blue&Gold itself as systemwide fees will already be covered (potential exception is if one has Cal Grant B and it is the frosh year where tuition/fee assistance is missing, but I have yet to see any school not make this up… UCs have it in writing because of Blue&Gold that it will be).

One of the major requirements of Blue&Gold is that Cal Grant must have been applied for (FAFSA plus GPA Verification submitted by March 2).

So if I don’t qualify for cal grant A next year or the years after, Blue&Gold will cover my systemwide fees (tuition?) as long as my household income is below 80K?

Yes it will. I remember being worried about that as well when I didn’t get the Cal grant. However, they will cover the fees on way or another, so don’t worry
If you want to make sure, you can ask any UC’s financial aid office, that’s where I got my info.

Take care

I’m curious, as I don’t qualify for Calgrants since I didn’t graduate from High school in California… the Blue & Gold plan, if I qualify, covers all the system costs… and it takes any PELL Grants and other grants etc that I would receive, right?

What about loans? Does it take those as well?

From what I understand I’m already going to have to come up with money for food, rent, books, clothes, gas, etc. But I’m not likely to get any of the Pell Grant and if they take the loan money as well not sure how I’m going to manage.

What can anyone suggest here? Or correct my understanding please, thank you!

I’m not really sure what you’re asking… Are you asking if Blue&Gold will consider Pell Grant towards satisfying its promise and if loans will count?

Blue&Gold is a promise that systemwide fees will be met through any combination of grants and/or scholarships. With Cal Grant, this is met with one grant that is already predesignated as being meant for systemwide fees thus there is no need for additional monies. Because of the language, it is **possible/B that other grants and scholarships could be considered towards meeting Blue&Gold (especially if earmarked for systemwide fees already). However (and this is a big however), I have yet to see this happen. I only ever mention it because it is something to be aware of if it ever becomes an issue. There is additional monies given either as grants or scholarships by each UC to meet systemwide fees when these fees are not already met through Cal Grant. Some see it actually labeled as “Blue&Gold” or some variation of that or something else entirely. A couple years ago when systemwide fees increased mid-year, I had “UC Fee Grant” making up the shortfall caused between the increase and the tuition/fee assistance from Cal Grant.

Loans are not used to satisfy Blue&Gold. They are loans, not free money and that would not meet the promise of Blue&Gold.

As for not graduating from a California high school, that’s another matter. Officially, Blue&Gold does require one to have applied for Cal Grant. The same deadlines apply and it is only logical that some of the same rules for eligibility would as well. However, the website only states to be a California resident and does not stipulate having graduated from a California high school. I have no personal experience here since I’ve been a lifetime California resident.
