Hey guys,
I’m currently a freshman at penn state university looking to transfer to UC Boulder for next fall. I am now paying in state tuition to psu, but i am wondering what the financial aid outlook is for me? Just in general, is Boulder able to give any money to OOS students? I didn’t get crap from UCSD and UC davis but CA is broke so I’m thinking i may be able to get some aid oos from cs or boulder. Anyway sorry if this comes across as vague but I’m just looking for general experiences or information on these two schools and their willingness to supply money to OOS students. Oh and I’m the second one in my family attending a four year university, my sister is a junior at Carnegie Mellon.
Very little aid is available to anyone at CU, instate or out.

Colorado isn’t going to give you anything. You’re OOS, and you’re a transfer.
Your family doesn’t pay taxes there…that’s why you’re being charged high rates. Why would a school THEN cover those high rates with aid??? Why would a school BOTHER to charge high OOS rates and then have to give you money to cover those high rates???
You have the double whammy - an OOS transfer. OOS students generally don’t get aid at public Us because they are supported with state taxes. Transfers generally don’t get money because it doesn’t help in rankings.
Don’t feel bad that you are a transfer - you wouldn’t have gotten much help anyway. Colorado is an expensive school for instate students. If you want the ‘out west’ experience, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana are all much cheaper. My daughter attends Wyoming as an OOS student for less than my nephew attends Colorado as an instate.
Utah has great rates, and great skiing.
