UC-Boulder vs. Arizona St.

Which school do you think provides for the best college experience? Athletics, School Spirit, Student Body, and Social Life???

Also which school provides the best business program?

Thanks...

Arizona State.

A Chinese University has a world ranking with Colorado 34th and ASU 100. I think ASU might have a little better business school. Colorado is not going to a bowl. ASU’s football coach is about to be fired. School spirit is lower than the norm for both schools.

Parent of bear:

That same Chinese ranking has Arizona State ahead of Dartmouth!! I think I'll look elsewhere for a better methodology.

SoCal18: Basically, it sounds like you want a school where you'll party a lot and learn nothing. I'd say either school would do nicely.

ummm... well do want to have 20 degree weather or 110 degree weather .. lol

ASU business school is really good...... but personally I love UC-boulder's campus...

I'd have to disagree with you when u say that asu doesnt have school spirit..... yes they do

with an undergraduate enrollment of 55 grand......

Ummm.....social life at UC boulder is huge but so at asu.... idk... weather could be an important factor

Social life - CU is not much of a party school anymore. Admin has imposed Draconian anti-alcohol measures in response to public pressure and underage drinking in Boulder happens, but is not recommended. However, drug use is okay.

Athletics at CU currently suck. At least the big-time ones like football and basketball. CU was 1st in Men's Cross-country and 2nd in Women's this year if you follow those sports.

School spirit. Despite the above, the students seem to enjoy themselves and find lots of different social issues to protest. As a student body, CU is not very diverse. Mostly white, with a fair mix of hispanic and asian. Not too many blacks. Mostly liberal, but with a few conservative groups allowed.

Business school is supposed to be top-notch (at least the graduate school) and the business school recently (within the last few years) got a huge endowment. It should be getting better.

Social life is not necessarily University-centered. There are fraternities, but they are really under siege by the police and the University. A lot of kids head to the mountains either to ski, board, or camp depending on the season. Lots and lots of outdoor activities to chose from at CU. The last time I was in Tempe it was a little after Labor Day and my wake-up call said "Good morning. It's 6 a.m. and 85 degrees." If you like being outside, chose Boulder.

Thanks for the responses... I think chillin til 08's response is the one I would use. Weather is important to me....I've never lived in really cold weather, but I like to wear hooded sweatshirts, so maybe Boulder would be the best option, oh an I really want to snowboard too. However I'm still unsure, so I think I'll apply to both and see what happens from there.

Thanks...I still have a yr. before I start applying, but I want to be prepared for all the shiz, I'm going to have to do come college app time.

As of right now if I had to choose between the 2, I would pick Colorado.

CU!

Arizona State = Tier 3 University

SoCal18:

Boulder is very rarely cold. Mostly, it's sunny with wintertime temperatures fluctuating as much as 40 F on sunny days.

I don't know about ASU's Business School, but CU's is excellent. They are in the process of building a beautiful new facility that will be open for Fall 2007. My D is a freshmen at CU and loves it. She's not (currently) a business major, but will be taking an advertising course in the college next semester.

Boulder's weather is milder than where we live, which is in-between Denver and Colorado Springs. They don't seem to get as much snow, for whatever reason.

We have 2 friends whose sons go to ASU and they like it a lot. However, even with air conditioning, the dorms can be sweltering in late summer.

If you have any specific CU questions, feel free to ask.

You must have a different threshold than Southern Californians. I've lived in Colorado (Colo Springs) and it definitely gets cold frequently in the winter time. It's not as miserable as the midwest or northeast weather-wise but it definitely gets cold. I've also lived in Phoenix. The weather in Phx is ridiculously hot in the summertime but not bad during the 9 month school year and very nice during the middle part of the school year.

Either place should be tolerable for a college student though Phx would lend itself more to routine outdoor activities during the school year like tennis, hiking, etc. Neither place will be quite as nice weather-wise as Southern California. Since you've lived your life in SoCal though, it might be a good experience to go to a place with different weather like Colo.

ucsd etc.

I'm sure I have a different sense of what is cold and what isn't. I was in Tampa one time when the temp was 55 F and the valets were out in parkas!!! I was in shirtsleeves.

The time I spent on the Front Range in Colorado could simply not be called "cold" by my standards. It's so very dry and so very sunny that I was perfectly comfortable in shirtsleeves at temperatures of around 35F or higher. I think I wore a winter coat maybe four times per winter. Now, if it's a rare damp day, the wind is blowing, or the sun is in, then it feels much colder. But, on the whole, I have felt much colder in much of the Southeast than I ever felt on the Front Range.

Cold to me is about 60 degrees. But I'm sure i could handle/get used to colder weather.

Also I watched the CU video on theu.com and the schools seems amazing. ASU is great too, but I like CU better. I plan on applying to both.

Thanks for the replies....ColoradoMomof2, I will be back later for some questions, but I'm going to play tennis.

Have a great day.
