UC Cal Grants

So I was offered "estimated Cal Grant A" from UCSC. Because I got cal grant from one UC does that mean I will get it for all the UC's I get into? How does Cal grant work? Can you spend the money freely or is it just to pay school stuff? How is the actual value for the cal grant determined since mine was "estimated"? Thanks

Well whether you use the money for school stuff or not, i doubt they’ll be giving you more than what going to school will cost. so technically no matter what, you will be using the money to pay for school.

No I wont be. I get my tuition paid for to begin with because I am a vet. My question is really just whether I get to go buy a new 2010 Triumph Daytona 675 with my cal grant money or not? If I am awarded the grant but the check is given to the school to cover expenses then no new motorcycle. If I get the check in my hands this equals new motorcycle. BUT if I already get my expenses paid for by my military benefits then maybe the school nor I will get a check. This is why I wanted clarification on how the cal grant works.

You get the $$ after the college does (if they feel like it).

I wouldn’t go around saying you bought a bike with it XD

What up Scooby? You will be buying that new bike buddy. VA will pay your tuition and your financial aid award will be refunded to you in full at the beggining of the quarter. I get about 5500 every quarter refunded to me because of my GI Bill.

Hot diggy dog! That is what I am talking about!

you can check your Cal Grants here:

Pel Grants come back to me? also? I am in a similar situation, but I would much rather have a speed triple to replace my sv.

Yeah, Im having continuous arguments with myself over either the daytona 675 or the street triple. Hmmmmm life can be difficult at times

The 2010 SE Daytona made me jiz in my pants when I saw it in the dealship.
I like the lack of fairings because it will cause me to get less tickets.

USMC, which grants are you getting refunded to you each quarter? I am eligible for the Cal Grant and UCSD Grant, but not the Pell Grant, and I was wondering if the UCSD school grant gets refunded as well.

haha freakin vets.
hey what do you guys think of all the ROTC kids?

I got like $24,000 in gift aid from Santa Cruz, and can get an additional 6,000 in subsidized loans. W00T.

damn it pays to be Andy Kaufman!!!

no bro, i am happy for you. you deserve it. 4.0 in math and shizz.

That’s nice, sis (aside from the Andy Kaufman jab, I’ll ignore it XD). But hopefully I won’t be attending UCSC. We shall see.

Oh snap, nice! I only got about 9,000 in UCSC and federal grants. The rest is the federal loans or whatever. But I probably won’t go there either

<- Marine Vet
@ stela2: Having had a few Marine buddies that were ROTC in High School, mad respect. Those guys were way ahead of the rest of us in regards to military discipline, uniform regulations, etc. during boot camp. Most of them (this may have been a coincidence, maybe not) ended up having fantastic leadership qualities.

^so hot.

UChopeful, I get UC grant from UCSD and a Pell Grant refunded back to me. I asked the financial aid dept at UCSD and you get Cal grants back also. The only thing that you don’t get refunded back are most scholarships.

All vets should apply for financial aid since our GI bill isn’t counted as income anymore. Those of you who get nice fin aid packages, stand by for some real nice refunds every quarter. It’s so beautiful, I wish I could stay in school forever. Schools paid 100%, we get our monthly living stipend, and a hefty bonus every 3 months. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Yeah it is beautiful, but its what we deserve. Especially for those of us who almost died numerous times for this benefit. I mean I joined cause I saw the 40K on the recruiters window (before new gi bill came out and before the war started) and then was shipped off to war. So I do look at it as almost dying for a free education/triumph daytona 675  And to think Europeans get free education regardless of who they are.

scooby - I hope you know something about bikes :)
I’m going to be getting my first within the next couple months. I don’t want to spend too much, and I have no experience with bikes. Do you think that a Kawasaki Ninja 250r would be the best place to start? Thats kind of what I"m planning on unless I hear that there is a better option out there.
