You have an average GPA, pretty low SAT Score, Average SAT Subject scores, a few EC's(join more clubs and activities this year), very few community service hours. Try to do more volunteering this year. They will still see your community service hours you've done your senior when you send in official transcripts.

I would say you have a good chance of getting accepted to UCR and CSULB, the other UC's will be reaches..

Thanks.
My essays were based on my financial hardship throughout my life and how it all correlates with education. I lived with my father and sister since I was six and he does not even have a HS Diploma. I have lived through and witnessed my father's struggle to support us without a formal education. I realized school was my only outlet(when I was 16). .....And so on.

Will school's read my essay and put this into consideration?
If articulated well enough do you guys believe it could help my chances?

It's not? That's what I heard with room and board. What did you hear? I also heard it's hard to get grants and FA OOS. I'm glad that may not be true! (well not really! As a taxpayer I was told OOS kids coming to UC's might help balance the budget!) Good luck!

I'd have to agree with Shrinkwrap that it's highly unlikely you'll get enough aid to go to these schools. The cost is over $40K for OOS students at UCs and $25K at CSUs and the federal money is a drop in the bucket for that COA. With maximum Pell Grant, loans and work study, you'll be around $30K short at UCs and $15K at CSUs and the rest would have to come in grants from the schools or outside scholarships but UCs and CSUs give almost no grants to OOS students.

You will do much better aid wise at private colleges or your in state publics.

Here's a quote from a recent article in the LA Times:

At UC campuses, in-state freshmen pay about $8,100 in fees, not including room, board or books. Because California does not provide funding for out-of-state students, about half of the extra $20,000 they pay each year covers UC's costs and the other half is profit for the system, officials said.

OK well I appreciate all of your imput but I don't need to be told how much its going to cost me.
I am just asking for my chances.
My dad and I will worry about paying for it after I get accepted.

Im only familiar with UCLA...since you do not live in California, it is definitely going to be tougher to get in especially because your sat scores are not too good but there's always a chance so don't get discouraged. And being a URM definitely helps. Sorry I could not comment on the other schools you've applied to. I wish you the best of luck.
