Can someone please help me understand how UC calculates it's capped weighted GPA? They take only the a-g courses from 9th and 10th -- they also only allow a maximum of 8 additional credits for honors/ap classes.

so if a student took 24 semester level courses in 10th and 11th - and got an A is every subject, then his capped GPA will be 4.33. This is based on the calculator in doorways.

is this correct? i keep reading about kids with gpas of 4.5 and 4.7 - how is that possible?

yes, you are correct (its 10th and 11th grade). But what I’ve read on here is that the capped GPA is just to determine if you are UC eligible. Once they determine you are
eligible, they look at all your rigor, classes, grades for being competitive with other
applicants - so your total weighted GPA would come into play. I believe they still only
count grades in the a-g classes though.

I’ve been wondering about the same topic as KUPKSDAD. How could anyone with GPA above 4.4 (weighted)? What Jbourne said makes sense. Anyone who knows for sure if this is true?

Some UCs cap GPA, but UCLA does not.
