College of Letters and Science: A student who has accumulated more than 80 transferable semester units from a four-year institution is considered to have excess units and will not be admitted. A student who has completed 80 or fewer UC-transferable semester units at a four-year university and then transfers to a community college will not accrue excess units and will be considered for admission.

So if i transfer from a UC to a JC then i can take as many units as i want without penalty?

No, if you went to any for year school you are subject to the unit cap. The unlimited units only apply for CCs. Whatever you do plan your units wisely because for Berkeley and most other UCs if you go over the unit cap you will not be able to transfer.

hi, i have the same situation as you. i saw this infromation on line and contact admission advisor in uc schools. for berkley, it doesnt matter. as long as now you are in CCC.my consulor was surpised too. she said it was new to her. so she called to confirm. the answer is positive that it doesnt matter. so the information on website is not accurate.

re2008, i was kinda confused by your reply. you said that it didn't matter as long as i went to a CCC and then later you said that the information on the website was not accurate. The information i have in my post is from the UC berkeley website, so could you elaborate?

well heres the response i got from the UC berkeley rep:

If you are applying to any major in the College of Letters and Science, once you have 70 transferable units anywhere (4-year and/or CC) and then continue at the Community College, you will get subject credit but no more unit credit. Therefore, you will not have over 80 semester units unless those units were completed at the 4-year institution. The HAAS School of Business has no unit maximum for consideration.
