no idea if i'm going tobe top 10% or not. i have no idea what my class size is. if i had to guesstimate i'd say 300-500 kids. yes, that's a large spread but i really have no idea. im in the magnet program so do kids from outside the magnet program still count? if they do then 500, if not then 300.
Class rank: no idea.

I think i have a bit of an upward trend. I live in california so i'm mainly looking at the UC school system. the courses with (H?) are classes that are listed as honors on my transcript but are not listed as honors at
https://doorways.ucop.edu/list/
the courses with H listed before the name are verified as honors courses by the above site. Assuming i get around 2200+ on the october sat and write a pretty decent essay (im taking a college essay writing class) what do you think my chances are for UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI. feel free to mention any schools that you think i have any chance of getting in at.

yeah just stick to UC's. your freshman grades would kill you at other colleges, esp. private ones. good luck! tell me if you get in to berkeley! hahahahahhhhaahhaha

actually i take that back....i actually don't know about berkeley.

bumpity bump bump?

i love how no one wants to chance you. mahahahahaha

Cal and LA are probably reaches, but you have a great shot at the rest of them.

ucd/uci/ucsb/ucsc/ucr/ucm: match

I'd say your chances are good for Berkeley, I got in as an international with 3.88 gpa and slightly higher sats.

bumpitybumpbump. IF you do leave feedback, i will be very happy, but it would also be very helpful to give the reasoning. and what i could possibly do to raise my chances. (besides SAT and Essay). THANK YOU SO MUCH!

pm me if you dont feel comfortable posting in this thread. and thanks again.

oh. if anyone wanted to know. calcruzer determined that my UC GPA is 4.083. maybe that'll get more responses.

Your biggest weakness is GPA -- sophomore is a 3.4, so your cumulative UW GPA is a 3.6. The average UW GPA for Berkeley was a 3.9. Your SAT score is good -- not phenomenal, but okay; SAT II scores are good, too. Your ECs are average, though the internship/research are very good. So...

Berkeley/UCLA: reach (maybe a slight reach, though more of a reach)
UCSD: match
UCI/UCSB: safe match

Make your essays awesome, and you just might get into Berkeley.

kyledavid80, are you sure that they look at freshman gpa? im a little confuzzled because like I just did my own unweighted Gpa and mine came out to be 3.75.

I got 5As and 6Bs in Sophmore (i didn't count Pe because it's not part of the a-g req.) I got 11As and 0Bs in Junior ( i didn't count Tennis because it's not part of the a-g req.) and i took summer school last year (forgot to list) US History AB and got A/A.

This means that. 4(5)+ 3(6)= 38 Sophmore.
4(11)+3(0)= 44 Junior.
4(2) = 8 11th grade summerschool.

SO (38+44+8)/ 24= 3.75.

HOWEVER, i dont know jack ***** about calculating UW gpa.
That being said, 3.75 really isn't taht much better tha 3.6. So that was sort of pointless lol.

Finally, IS THERE NOTHING I CAN DO? (besides the abovementioned great essays, better sat scores)

Yeah, I'd thought I saw more Bs second semester of 10th grade, so my calculation was a little off. They do look at your freshman grades and GPA, but they don't factor that into your GPA. Even then, though, your 10th grade GPA is a 3.4, which definitely doesn't look good; the 11th grade 4.0, though, is great. Your UW and UC GPA are a bit below Berkeley's average.

However, you show an upward trend, and junior year is the most heavily weighted. I don't think a higher SAT score would drastically help your chances, unless it was something like 2250+.

I don't see much anything else you can do, other than making sure you write really great essays, which are very important in Berkeley's admissions. So though it's about a slight reach (in large part because of UW GPA), I'd say you still have a good shot.

In response to your pm, your GPA is on the low side for Cal and LA. The average weighted gpa for incoming freshmen at those two schools are 4.2 and above. Even though you have many ec's none of them really stands out. I can guarantee you that over 90% of the people who apply to Cal and LA have almost the same exact ec's as you.

Good luck.
