UC Chances #2

CA Resident
NOT in financial need, no family struggles, etc. The closest thing they'll probably give me is first-generation college applicant, since my mother only has a 2 year degree. But my father has a 4 year degree, so I'm not being too hopeful here.

ACT -- 28 Comp, 25 Eng/Writing, 6 Essay; Retook the test just to find out that I got a 28 ... again. Not sure what my new Eng/Writing is yet, but I think it will be higher.
SAT I -- Not using.
SAT II -- 510 Lit, 600 Math II; retaking both
AP Tests -- None :(
GPA -- 3.75 UC & W
Rank -- 134/673

38 semesters of a-g coursework throughout 9-12
4 semesters of honors 10-11
4 semesters of AP 12

Community Service -- 37 hours
ECs -- Full list, but not directly connected to school (doesn't appear on transcript) and none are leadership.
Awards -- Honor Roll for achieving a certain cumulative GPA (not on transcript either. Maybe it's just not important enough, but it's the only award I got)
Jobs -- Ocassional babysitting during the summer, averaged 5 hrs/wk. Done this 9-12
Educational Prep -- recieved outside tutoring in english/writing during summer of sophomore year

Essays -- Still working on em. I'm trying my best to build them so they add color/personality to the application. Also hoping to squeeze in a subtle excuse for my lack of honors/APs and some kind of challenge / "struggle" The essays should be alright.

My updated list, all majors are in biomedical engineering or bioengineering:
UCSD (I'm not too hopeful, though)
Cal Poly SLO
UCD
UCI
UCM
UCR

My top three picks besides SD would be Cal Poly, Davis, and Merced. Would I be a match for at least one of these three? Am I safe for at least a couple of the colleges on my list? Only one CSU has my major and I'd rather not go OOS/private.
I've been slacking off way too much these past years.
Thanks in advance for any responses!!

bump.......

IMO I think SD is a huge reach for you. Although 28 is the score that they usually get, your sat 2s are a bit lacking and you have taken no aps.. I don't want to sound degrading but as a senior (c/o 07) myself, I think not having taken any APs will hurt you. Davis and Irvine are reaches, but I think you'd be a match at UCM or UCR. I'd suggest applying to San Diego State U. But you never know, as colleges are unpredictable and no one here can tell you your definite chances at any given school.

Thank you for the response. Glad to hear I'm a match for at least a couple of them. Unfortunately, no other CSUs/UCs offer the major I want to do (B/BME) My list contains all of the CSUs/UCs that do except UCB and UCLA.

Are there any CA private universities that offer bio/biomedical engineering in my range? Again, I'd rather go to a public univ, and I'd much rather stay in-state, but I'm also getting the feeling that I need a stronger backup plan...

any other opinions? thanks.

UCSD--Reach
Cal Poly SLO--Slight Reach
UCD--Slight Reach
UCI--Slight Reach
UCM--Safety
UCR--Match

P.S. You are also a match at San Diego State and UCSC. You might want to consider one of these (or both of them).

UCSD: Reach
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Match-Slight Reach
Cal Poly SLO: Match-Slight Reach
UCR/UCM: Safe Match

vc89:

UCSD: Super Reach (Engineering)
UCI/UCD: Slight Reach
UCR/UCM: Match

Saying San Diego State is a match is an insult..that's safety..
