UC chances, I don't know if i can make it...

Hi everyone. I am new to this board and thought this chances forum is really cool. So basically i am worried about my GPA messing me up for admission. I am a senior right now and all throughout HIghschool i have taken AP and Honors classes. However, my GPA is only about 3.5. My first choice for school is UCSB. I am not sure if i can make it though, i want to find out what my chances are. This may be a shock to all the people on here who want to go to the ivy league or at least UCLA, but thats the school I like. I am also considering UCR/UCI/ taking reccomendations. I am interested in being a biology major. So here are my stats, hope someone can help.

GPA: approx. 3.5, may be a little bit higher now

Classes: all AP and Honors throughout high school. except when not availible, i.e. spanish I. I am currently taking AP Physics, AP Govt/Econ, AP English Lit, AP Calculus, and Ceramics (need that art credit)

SAT scores: Reading- 720
Math- 610
Writing- 610

SAT II scores: Biology- 720
Literature- 630
US History- 670
AP Scores: AP Euro Hist- 3
AP Bio- 4
AP US Hist- 4
AP Psych- 5
Plus whatever i get this year on my tests
ECs: pretty much being on my schools varsity water polo and swim team all 4 years (we have some CIF championships under our belt). I worked as a lifeguard all summer. I play several instruments, not at school though. I am not sure if the ECs are only counted if the are organized through a school or something else.

So what do my chances look like for UCSB?

I would say you have a reasonable shot at UCSB. Have you shown a progressive improvement in your grades? Have you calcuated your UC GPA?

Another thing is if you don't get into the UC of your choice, I always recommend sucking up your pride and going to a good community college for two years and then transfer. It's a cheaper route to go and is especially good if you're not exactly sure in what you want to major.

so would UCSB be a good match for me?

if your gpa is unweighted, then you're a shoe-in!!! You also have a really good chance at the other UCs... UCI/UCD/UCR/UCSC !!!

since most of my classes were AP thats probably my weighted gpa, unweighted i'm guessing would be like 3.2, it seems pretty low

If you posted your correct uw gpa, UC GPA, and class rank, it would be much easier to chance you.

Take Math IIC, it's an easy way to boost your chances.

The UCs go by the UC GPA, not an UW GPA or a W GPA.

To computer this, use this link

and make sure to cap at 4 year-long honors/AP/IB courses--or just post your grades here and we'll compute it for you.

i would say you have a pretty good chance
only negs would be your sat IIs
they are a little low
but your ecs show that you have some passion for swim sports etc
which is really good

The SAT IIs are fine for UCSB. I think it's a match.
