UC Chances With Final Stats

Hi, I'm a senior from California (a potential Poli Sci or IR major) who would like to know his chances at UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCSB, and UCR.

GPA: 3.7 (UW) / 3.82 (UC) / 4.1 (High School) - My UC GPA looks low because the system only gives extra credit for a total of eight honors and AP semesters taken during sophomore and junior years, while I had taken a grand total of 16 semesters.

Class Rank: 30 / 601

SAT I: 710 (M) / 730 (V)

SAT II: 740 Writing / 700 Math IC / 740 US History

AP's: I took European History sophomore year (got a 4 on the test) and took English Language (5), US History (4), Chemistry (4), and Calculus AB (4) during my junior year. This year, I am taking AP Statistics, Biology, Psychology, and English Literature.

Honors Courses: Freshman year, I took Honors Biology and Literature. Sophomore year, I took Honors Chemistry, Pre-Calculus, and World Literature. This year, I am taking Honors American Government, because AP Government was not offered.

EC's: I have been a devoted member of Academic Decathlon, the Computer Club, Chess Club, and the California Scholarship Federation since freshman year. I have been Treasurer, and am now President, for Academic Decathlon and Vice President of Computer Club.

Volunteering: I spent some time this summer at a local convalescent center and created strong relationships with many patients and employees there. Through my experiences there, I have left myself a great deal of things important to me to discuss in my essays.

Depending on your essays....

UCB: Good shot
UCLA: Good shot
UCSD: Probable acceptance

But the problem is you have no one thing that stands out, my advice is to try to make your volunteering sound very important to you and the focus of one of your essays..

i actually believe that you'd have a huge chance of getting accepting into all of them
berkeley and ucla might be iffy but ur definitly accepting inot the other ones

sinful_saint:

UCB: Match
UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe Match
UCSB: Safety
UCI: Safety
UCR: Super Safety

Any other comments?

Bu-bu-bump

yeah calculate for yourself your own GPA. It's not that hard. 4 is an A 3 is for a B and etc. You give one point extra if it's honors or AP and under the UC approved courselist of weighed classes. Just add up the points in one semester and divide by the number of classes to get the average. Do that for all semesters from 10-11th grade and then average those. Ta-da you've got your average weighed GPA. This will help people a lot more judge your chances rather than having us try to mentally do it...

Hope this helps...

Uhmm... All of my GPA's are there. My fully weighted GPA is a 4.1, but my UC GPA is only a 3.82 because the UC's only give an extra point for 8 AP or Honors semesters taken duringn the sophomore and junior years, while I had taken 16. This means I am not being given credit for 8 semesters of AP classes. My unweighted is a 3.7, by the way. All the info is there.
