UC chances?

I’m going to be a junior this coming fall (class of '07) and I was wondering what are my chances at UC’s… particularly UCSD. And also, any input on what I should do next year to improve my chance would be greatly appreaciated.

I live in CA. I go to the top high school in our district-- I’d say, about 200 people get admitted to UC’s every year (at least the past two years). 20-30ish go to UCSD. Therefore, my school is extremely competitve. :frowning: English is not my first language. I came to US at the end of 6th grade and my english at that time was limited to words like “cat, door” (actually, these are the only words I knew back then when I was tested at the school district - -;; )

(subject - 1st semester grade / 2nd semester grade)

8th grade -
Honors Algebra I - A / B

9th grade - [we are not allowed to take AP classes during 9th and 10th grade]
Regular English 9 - A / A
Honors Algebra II - A / B
Physical Science - A / A
P.E. - A / A
Drama I - A / A
Geography (1st sem only) - A
Health (2nd sem only) - A
GPA. - 4.0 / 3.88

10th grade - [we are not allowed to take AP classes during 9th and 10th grade]
Honors English 10 - B / B
Honors Geometry - B / C (I really dont get geometry… :frowning: How much is this C gonna hurt me?)
Regular Biology - A / A
Drama II - A / A
Psychology I - A / A
World History - A / A
GPA - 3.66 / 3.5

11th grade - classes I’m going to take next year
Honors English 11
Honors Pre-Cal
AP Biology
AP Statistics
U.S. History
Regular Chemistry

Classes I’ve taken at local Community College:
Chinese II - A
Chinese III - A
English 163 Reading - A
English 151B Writing Composition - A
Psychology 101A - A
I’m also planning to take Physics at CC - WAY easier than our school’s AP Physics. ^^""

I know the downward trend looks really bad… so I’m already preparing for my Honors and AP classes now during the summer… hopefully I’ll get A’s next year.
But let’s just say I have all A’s next year, my cum GPA would be 3.7 (unweighted), 4.12 (weighted), what are my chances at UC’s? Like I said before, UCSD is like my dream school right now. I’m planning to go to pre-med, so probably double majoring in science related fields and music (or perhaps put music down as a minor… not sure yet)

Oh, EC… not that impressive… :frowning:

  • I’ve been involved in all four of all school plays/musicals, that’s countless hours; but my record only says 65 service learning hours.
-I help out at my church with computer related stuff (34 weeks for an avg of 1 hr/week)
-I’m currently volunteering at my local hospital.
-I started piano in 1st grade, so, about 10 years of piano now. I’m applying for High School Diploma next year.
-I passed 8th grade drama test (which converts to 9th grade test in the US) for the London’s Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA).
-I’m inovlved in two clubs - Asian Outreach and this computer club.

-hopefully next summer, I will have a chance to take this Biotechnology Lab (which also include internship and such) at my local community college

Thank you for your time. Any input/advice would be greatly appreaciated!

oneday:

Based on your GPA and ECs,
UCLA/UCB: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCD/UCSB/UCI: Safe Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safety

You look fine, really. Because of your situation with the English language, make sure to get extra help with your essays from people who know about college admissions essays, not necessarily your friends or enlgish teachers, but maybe. Don't worry so much, enjoy life, do what you like, and you look fine.

You seem to be really hardworking. Be diligent--DONT SLACK OFF (like I kinda did) in junior year. And you seem to have a specialty with computers; that might count as a passion. For now, I think your chances are good for UCSD.
