UC Chances

Hi, I'm a student at a California High School in the Sacramento Area and wanted to hear what the College Confidential community thinks my chances are at getting into UCs, in particular UC Davis. Hopefully the following information will help someone make a decision.

Major and Minor

Major - Molecular and Cell Biology with a focus on Genetics
Minor - Music

Thanks to anyone that can tell me anything.

i think you have a pretty good shot, your GPA is a touch low, but i think its a match to a high match

Berkeley - super high reach

Davis - high reach

UC Davis will be a reach. Berkeley and UCLA will be high reaches. UCSB and UCSD would be matches, I’d think.

^I’m pretty sure UCSD is harder to get into than Davis. So Davis can’t be a reach when UCSD is a match.

You can probably get in with a strong personal statement.

^ Yew is rite. I are sawrryz.

Here’s a little section from my personal statement that I’m writing right now if you’d like to see that;

“It’s funny how the things we love to do have a tendency to become something greater than just personal joy. Some people race, some people make movies, some people even care for the elderly for their personal joy. All of these things, with enough passion, translate into a service to society. My service is the work I do through the Performance Arts at my High School and Civic Theatre West. -”

This is covering Prompt 2 in the UC application and I plan on talking about how I love performance and the service it does to the community by being the escape from reality in these tough times of recession and the like. I figure the sample here should help you get a bit more of an idea.

dudecollege, gettig into UCLA isn’t as hard as getting into Berkeley.

Also, from what I’ve heard, Davis is the easiest UC to get into aside from Riverside and Merced. So, I don’t know if I’m misinformed or not.

Also, from what I’ve heard, Davis is the easiest UC to get into aside from Riverside and Merced. So, I don’t know if I’m misinformed or not.

Sorry Bub (hey, I like your user name for the purpose of this retort), but you are “misinformed” with that last comment. But, you sound like a great guy aside from that…

You should recalculate your gpa with the UC formula. If you calculate with only 10th and 11th grade your gpa will be lower since UC don’t include 9th grade gpa in the process.

I recalculated using what the UC system deemed me to use and it came out to a UC GPA of 3.9615 as opposed to 3.9737. So, approximately a .0122 drop.

Hey RML, I never said it was. I said UC Berk and UCLA are high reaches. One may be higher than the other, but I don’t do the “high-high-high-high reach” and “high-high-high reach” bullcrap. If it’s a high reach then it’s a high reach. End of story.

I believe UCBerkley, UCLA, UCSD, UCDavis are the higher tier UC’s followed by UCI and UCSB, lastly UCSC, UCR, and UCM.

Get a better SAT1 and math lvl 2 score, and you’ll be a match for Davis. Your chances at schools like SD, LA, Berkeley will depend heavily on your app essays.

Chance “me” back, Bub:

Anything else that people have to tell me?
