UC Class Rank (Freshman)?

Will UC's look at the class rank with the freshman or without?

THANKS!!

UC's don't look at class rank. Though Class rank was used to determine ELC

wow so they don't even take class rank into consideration?
that's a shock and a relief
class rank does give colleges a good interpretation of how well you are doing compared to other poeple around the country, but if they don't, all the better for me
are you sure? can someone confirm this?

class rank does give colleges a good interpretation of how well you are doing compared to other poeple around the country

I disagree - class rank gives them a decent estimate of how well you are doing compared to the rest of your class - thats it.

I think teal is correct. With the California public school system, a class rank can have wide implications depending on the school. They have to take ELC into consideration somehow, though...

my school doesn't rank, but we have an amazingly strong class....so theyll just compare stat to stat right?

Class rank counts for ELC (top 4% of the graduating class). After that, it's GPA for admission (and determining UC eligibility).

Class rank doesn't factor in too much; for example: Student A ranks 1/700 with a GPA of 4.0; however, if that same student is placed at another school, he or she will either remain number one or drop; simply put, different schools have different academic programs...some schools don't offer as many AP classes. Class rank is dependent on the schools grading system and strength of the student body (academically).

Class rank is overrated. You could be a top student and have no outside involvement in your world, supported by caring parents and an occassional paid tutor and you might not do as well as a student who is challenging themselves through highschool with difficult classes, no family support. The difference in GPA could be insignificant and still move a person up or down the class ranking.

I think rank can be helpful. Then again, most of the AP/Honors classes in my school are taught by at least 2 different teachers, and usually 1 of them is easy and the other is very hard. I've been pretty unlucky with that.

Same here aim78.
