UC/common app essay

So as you probably know, for the common app there's a choice to choose your own topic, and I was wondering if choosing the UC prompt was a good/bad idea because I'm gonna apply to UCs anyway.

thanks for all your feedback

the UC prompt will bring about many "cliche" essays, especially if you have an Asian background. But it will be easier for you, since you can just copy and paste the same essay for the apps. However, it can work either for or against you, b/c if your essay is bad, then all the schools will have to deal with it. If its good, vice-versa.

why especially if you're Asian?

Well, me myself as an Asian, and with many friends that are Asian- with the UC prompt, most Asians typically will have the first thing that comes to mind. That is, the struggles that their parents had faced while coming to America and starting a new life.
Now, you may disagree with me, but I find this to be very evident in the area where I live- Southern California.

Oh, yea I forgot about that topic. I'm asian and I live in socal too, but I moved here when I was about 4 so I don't think my parents had many struggles, or I probably just didn't remember them.

what prompt is about asians?

There is no prompt about Asians. But the UC prompt will generally spark the Asians who will apply, I believe most will have a tendency to write about the struggles their parents had to go through, to immigrate to America and start over.
